My Mood: | Pricing Poll: ER Girl-Bot Avatar Okay it's just about done.. and now comes the issue of pricing. I'm never terribly good at this. I underprice, I overprice, and generally I struggle to please the customers (and thus sell more) and at the same time respect my own work and effort. So, here's the art. 414 prims, 22 parts. Hand aligned joints, tons of shiny, a little flexy, a little glow too. Flight pack and a separate freebie flight assist hud (so people can use the flight pack for effects WITH their own favourite multi-tool.). Glowy flames, cool sound effects.. Glowy cyber eyes, and "cyber-hair" that you can wear on your other avatars as well. In all honesty, I've been working on this for 3-4 weeks now. Not as super heavy as "every single day" but it's been my only real "project" for the last few weeks. (and we're talking 8-16 hour days) As for other avatars on the market, price varies. Furries, which are worn "every day" run around L$800-1000. Bigger, more impressive avatars cost more, cheaper novelty ones cost less. This avatar is a bit small. Really it's 1.5meters, which puts it at belly/breast height for most avatars. It's easy at a glance to decide that this is a "child" avatar. It's definitely "child sized" as it was planned as a "toy robot". It's DEFINITIVELY female.. with obvious prim breasts. While this may lower it's appeal to the guys out there, there are also VERY FEW female robots in SL. However, I'm not sure that many would choose this as their "everyday look" or "identity avatar". It's moddable, which is a feature. Aside from the jetpack, it's pretty much entirely unscripted. I looked at how much work it would be to SCRIPT colour changing into all 22 parts, and I simply decided that it was too much work, and much easier to leave it cop/mod and let people tinker. So, there's the data... Let's hear what you think. |

My Mood: | I wouldn't buy it myself since it's female. Really love the design for what it's worth though. I think 800-1000 L$ seems more than fair. Personally I'd even pay over 1000 L$ if I were female - but I'm not sure how many others would pay that amount.

My Mood: | Its so good, its in the bigger impressive Avatar category in my book (size not being an issue) and my first reaction is to set the price level at over L$1000 - up towards L$2000 to L$3000 even but I'm not that price conscious and as you say - its not going to be everyday use so even fewer people may be willing to pay the top end in that case . As long as you have the right promotion and/or distribution then a lower pricing , higher volume model will work and that Avi is such a great advert for itself , the more who are wearing it the more who will see it. So maybe a lower price point under L$1000 would be right - say L$800 In the poll I went for the top 3 price categories That said ... I can haz at any of those prices?

My Mood: | For the work and love that went into it, anything less than 1000L would be a bargain. Hell, anything less than 1500L would. That's a work of art.

| Oh, Winter - keep in mind that the Japanese market tends to price L$ very, very low. The SL Fashion side is reflecting the needs of the japanese market lately. I think if one of the SL Japan-ers tried to sell this, they'd be going for $500L. |

My Mood: | 1500 is my idea-- it shouldn't be so cheap as for everyone to have it, but for it to be above 1500, it would need to have tons of scripting along with the beautiful primwork (such as the C-Tech mechs).

| I think it rocks, but like you I'm terrible at pricing things. And WarKirby, I haven't seen any better than this in the female bot area - by far. |

My Mood: | Anyway Winter, in my personal experience, people don't really want to pay a whole lot for a complete avatar. My most expensive stuff are 500 and to justify above that is really difficult. It's not a value statement on your stuff because that avatar really is amazingly beautiful (from the photos as I haven't seen one in-world) and makes me really jealous. But most people aren't going to get that it's so well done and aren't going to really care. I would say 750 really max, above that and people don't really want to pay for an avatar because that's a range reserved for houses or tools of some sort. I would personally price under that on the basis of selling more because it's so high quality verses selling a handful to people who recognize the building. |
