OnRez - Do you actually make sales here?

I was going to title this post "Why don't I ever sell anything on OnRez.com" but I just logged in and discovered that in fact I have sold 6 pianos so far this year. I was surprised to see my balance. I guess I was expecting to get notices with each sale like I do on SLExchange. That said, for every piano I have sold on OnRez, I have sold perhaps fifty on SLExchange. Is my experience unique? Is SLExchange that much better than OnRez?

I never sold anything on SLX when I used it.

I didn't make a lot of sales through onrez either, but as an experiment I added two freebie items and I "sell" roughly a hundred of those a day. So it's definitely looked at.

No, SLX isn't as good as OnRez. SLX takes a cut. SLX puts money in Anshe's pocket.

It is possible to set OnRez to notify on each sale, but it's not a default setting, if i recall correctly.

I make some sales with OnRez, but as in your case, significantly fewer. I would say the proportion of sales (SLX vs OnRez) for me is the same as yours, if not less.

I like the overall look of OnRez, as well as the bulk handling available for sellers... but I often find that I miss the detailed traffic and account reporting SLX has. I really don't honestly know what folks look at most on my OnRez account, and subsequently really don't know which products I should push more.

I'm not sure Persephone is posting to talk about the ethics behind either site though, Dancien. Just sales-wise.

Frankly, I would love to pay more attention to OnRez, but it simply doesn't bring in the sales that SLX does. Also, the commission it takes is well within my budget and something I would expect for the use of a service anyway. I would not have any issues with a similar commission to OnRez *IF* it brought in a good number of sales.

As it is, I make so few sales through their site, it's more of a hassle than a boon to list new products there.

I would love to sell more on OnRez. I am the first piano listed on both sites. I sell one to two pianos a day on SLEx. Since the beginning of the year I have easily sold 500 pianos on SLex. In that same time I have sold six on OnRez. I even went though the effort of deleting my OnRez box and restarting. I have no idea why I make virtually no sales on OnRez. It kinda boggles my mind.

Like Persephone...I sell 50-1 at SLX vs OnRez. I dont know why that is, I used to do the opposite when it was SLB. I was their Top Seller. *shrug*

I sell more on slx. More traffic I guess. I list them on both though and get sales from both. Since its free to list, and after you get set up initially both have potential for endless sales with little or no work so I think its smart to set up on both. I like the onrez in world vendors you can set up too.

I really don't list my products on either site to make sales, per se. I just know that people use SLEx and OnRez to research products, and then go see them in-world. My stuff is expensive enough that few people would buy them sight unseen anyway. Still, I do manage to make some sales every day on SLEx. And I agree, OnRez has a nice presentation, but no real reporting.

I will say this...OnRez takes forever to load for me..especially to login. SLX pops right up.

I wonder why that is. It seems completely contrary to everybody I have talked to. Do you have any ideas?

I think onrez has better search functions so people will use it more as a catalog instead of a place to buy from. I did track for a bit and a fair number of people who bought my freebies from onrez went and bought my avatars in-world even though they were listed on the site.

I like Onrez better in almost every way, except that I don't make as many sales and there aren't enough subcategories (imo). There's also a really annoying thing they do, where if an item only has one tag, it'll show up first for that tag no matter what. That really bugs me, because I thought the more tags the better, so here I am writing "venetian, carnival, mardi gras, mask, masks, masquerade". I do a search for "mask" and the first result is some one prim picture ganked off google with bad alpha and set for 150L with a single tag.

Yeah that bugs me.

So I make more sales on SLX, but I dislike their "cut", their ties to Anshe and their layout

Onrez has better features and a nicer layout for sure. If they could up the traffic they would kick slx ass.

What are their (SLEX) ties to Anshe? I was not aware of that. I need to get out more.

Actually I took most of my items off SLX due to some shady practices on their part. back when they were both even I still made way more sales on OnRez than I did SLX.
