My Mood: | Part of Tyrian Camilo's empire is for sale: the Mainosotalu Ad Network is for sale for an asking price of 2.5 million Linden bucks. It consists of roughly 1800 billboards on 55k m^2 land. (About 32 m^2 per billboard.) That means his tier is not that high: US$195 for the whole adfarm network (although in this case he has lots of other businesses which also use land of various sizes and hence incur tier of their own.) Hmmm, so now I understand why those jerks can leave land for sale at absurdly inflated prices for months and even years at a time. L$2.5m/1800, by the way is.... L$1389 per lot, which is less than many adfarm extortionists ask for. Mainostalu's land just as land is worth maybe L$250-L$300k at the moment on the current land market, maybe less. So the billboards are supposedly worth over US$7500 in real money. Personally, I think the value of the billboards is about zero: Tyrian seems to have few if any customers other than his own businesses. (In all fairness to Tyrian, unlike most of the other adfarmers, he actually DOES have legitimate businesses to advertise. And, his billboards look better than most.) ![]() Last edited by Tammy Nowotny; 06-13-2008 at 10:20 AM.. Reason: fixed title |

My Mood: | Interesting. I fund the servers for Gogomodo Trivia for Second Life (formerly SLTrivia.com) by selling ads. I've found it incredibly hard to find people who want to advertise, despite the really low rates (L$5000 per month for unlimited impressions at our over 160 locations grid-wide) in front of a guaranteed audience. I've got a few loyal advertisers but that's it - they're getting a hell of a lot of exposure (hours and hours and hours) for L$5000 per month. Then again, I keep meaning to take out an ad with Cris, but I can't come up with a design a like. Regards, -Flip

My Mood: | It *is* interesting that people who willingly sacrifice their name and reputation to make money in ways that honest people won't are beginning to cash out. |

1) Its getting harder to make money with "businesses" like these while ligitimiate business are fine. or 2) He thinks SL is soon to go belly-up and either way, he's trying to get out while the goings good. | |

Hiding
| So many people say that, but I've never really understood why. I may be mistaken, but aren't Tyrian's ads like UFOs on stilts? Give me a circa 2006 Mr Lee's Greater Hong Kong sign any day of the week. Anyway, the problem isn't so much with the design of a single ad plot, but the combined ugliness of a whole load of ads owned by different people bunched together. Tyrian's fall into that category IIRC. |

SL Join Date: 5/13/2006 | Just as Weedy never found a buyer for her 16m plots on every sim, this ad farmer will not sell his billboard land as one chunk to anyone but another ad farmer. And none of those will buy what he's offering at the current price. Here's hoping he fails and has to set each plot individually for $L3.0 a meter and his neighbors needing prims snatch them up.
