| Sculptris Sculptris No, not a tool for making Second Life sculpties, but rather an incredibly powerful tool to make mesh items that literally anyone can figure out. I made this in 3 minutes with NO instructions, immediately after installation. It's about like squeezing and poking at clay, and then painting it ~ with a bilateral symmetry to anything you do as the 'default' startup mode I guess. ![]() I was able to save to .obj format. Which is kinda useless to me, I can't 'unconvert' that, all I have is sketchup on my new machine here. Can anyone convert the .obj to .dae and tell me if this imports to Mars? here's the .obj: output.obj I call it 'blue dinopig man' The following is a video of people who are 1000x better than I am, using it; it's quite incredible. Frans tipped me off about this! Major props... this is awesome! |

Business: Imagine Nation | Started to run the conversion. But a) you're missing the texture and b) it's very high poly... like 68,000 which xlates to about 136K tris for that object alone. Not a tool I'd personally use.

| I wonder if I could 'reduce the polygons' somehow, I know 3ds max and other programs like that can do that... And I probably have a texture here somewhere, but blue dinopig man isn't really needing a lot of fidelity at this stage. |

Business: Imagine Nation | You can optimize with Max, Maya, Blender, etc. In fact, I would prolly throw it in blender and remove inner faces/vertices, as you don't really need those, then do an optimization. As for the texture? Sure, I could throw on a def texture and you could just change the matl file to point to uv coords. Iow, why don't you import it in blender and output a dae that way? Afaik, blue mars does support blender dae imports. No matter. From what I can see that proggie is still a tri hog. ymmv. |

My Mood: SL Join Date: April 2007 | I have never done any modeling of any kind, my artwork goes as far as drawing, painting, and I never really messed with any sculpties. I jumped over to this program after seeing this thread about 2 hours ago and here is my first creation! P.S. Now I have yet another reason to be completely unproductive! I cant wait to get good at it, after seeing some of the submissions in the gallery Im super excited |

| Use the "reduce" button a bunch of times; I was able to bring my random shape down to like 3600.

My Mood: | Wow, that's absolutely great, Luc. Tres cute. Sculptris looks really powerful, sort of a low end Zbrush, with no disparagement meant about "low end". Really, aside from making normal maps, you just don't need to be able to make 3 million polygon models. And it's freeware! (although the donation button is conspicuously placed. Everyone's doggie needs kibble, after all) |

| Humps, this is the first 3D program I've had any joy with since POV Ray in the early 90s. If I can do shit like this with this software, anyone can. |
