    Part One

OK well now is a good time as any to update this, since I am waiting for textures to render

Prior to the last few weeks, I hadn't released anything in SL since the end of January, mainly from pure frustration; I had been working on a pair of complex sculpted boots in homage to Vivianne. Getting frustrated, I decided to step away from Maya.

At that time I realized that my frustration was more about SL. I have been here for almost 6 years. I create because I enjoy not for any other reason. I have been fortunate since PM opened in July 2005. I have a solid customer base and have had minimal issues. The issues I do have are that people do not understand that SL is not my life. I can not sit there all day waiting for people to IM me with questions. When I am in world, until a certain time I will respond to inquiries. Once it’s my private time, I do not answer. It specifically states in my profile, drop me a note card. I honestly got tired of people interrupting my personal time and not respecting that I like to enjoy my friends and explore the grid, just as they do. I just about sold my sim and said bye-bye. I decided to walk away for a few months. Yes I played WoW. Let me tell you how nice it was just to enjoy and not worry about people.

While I was on sabbatical, I would check my offline IMs’ in my emails and answer questions/concerns. I didn’t leave people in the dark.

When I returned 3 weeks ago, I fired up Maya and went through all my files to see where I left off. I looked at Viv’s boots and decided ok, let me return to these later, in all honestly it will be most complex sculpts I have done.

One of the largest curves I have had to over come is my shadow work. Spectacular lighting I am comfortable with. The shadows I never was. I worked for a few days just testing shadows.

My first attempt at shadows was on furniture, my Poke chair and you can see in the background I was also testing baking to resemble light coming through the window. I was pretty happy with the results for both. I wanted soft shadows on the chair and I was able to get it just about how I wanted it.

(Note: I am not advertising here, I would post my original snapshots but I do delete them after the ads are completed)

So I took it another step further. Yay! I did a funky chair. This time I would try a furniture set. The first furniture set I ever owned in RL were futons. I am satisfied with the shadows and texture work. I didn’t want the textures to be flat; I wanted a nice sheen to it. As Siyu said, it looks like Egyptian cotton. I smiled when she said this.  I want people to be able to tint the set to their own color preferences and trying to get the texture right was... um how can I say, a bitch to do.

OK back to my shoe folders. I wanted shadows on my shoes. This took me a little longer than doing the furniture because of the light set up. I sat for about 5 hours testing light scenes. I finally got one that I was happy with and saved it as my default light set up. Will it work for every pair of shoes? No, I realize that because of the pair that I am baking at the moment.

Well my first shadow test on shoes was these clogs. I did up load them in world, though I haven’t released it for sale. My PM group/subscribers got a nice light tan version. I am still debating if I am going to sell them or not… If I do, I need to clean up the over burns

The Shandra Wedges I am extremely proud of. I am happy with all the texture results. What I am not happy with it’s the level of detail you loose in SL. One day I hope LL changes that. What we create outside of SL will look exactly as it should.

One texture set it did. I always try and do different tones : light and dark and or 2 texture sets. Usually leather and suede.

    Part Two

Finally, PRIM TOES! OMG I can not believe I made prim toes. I did not like them when the toes first hit the grid last year. I thought it was unnecessary. One of my customers, Tita Martines had asked me for months, actually since last year, to make prim toes with my shoes. I thought I would give it a shot, if not just to shut her up .. Joking

OK people toes are not easy to make!! I was working away barefoot, looking at my toes while working in Maya. Yeah pretty sight with my feet on the desk lol.

My main concern was matching the vast amount of skins on the grid. It took me about 2 days to come up with 48 skin shades. I have allowed mod on the shoes because if people are anal like me they want to match it 100 percent.

The shoes/toes require 2 HUDs. I personally do not like getting a HUD with so many buttons that leave me confused. I wanted to elevate any frustration for the end user. So the skin tone and the nail texture HUD come separate. I did this for another reason; I will in the next few weeks add more textures to the nail HUD and will do a set for my sculpted nails with the same texture. You will be able to match your toes and nails perfectly.

My next pair of prim toe shoes will have a toe ring. The toe ring itself won’t be just a circle band; I want to do something different. Something, elegant and feminine.

I still am working on Viv’s boots, and at the moment I am a little tossed between making them into a shoe or keep it as a boot.

One thing I still need to do is finish my flash banner for SLU. I was hoping to get it done last week…

For those that ask me to come to events, I want you to know it’s not because I don’t want to go, as your can see, I am extremely busy. 

Anyways. It’s nice to create again 
