Random thoughts (and pictures) as I wander North and West - and eventually home again.
Mile 203: Blue Mountain

I've been watching the sky waiting for a break in the rain and lights, so as to pull over and do a little meteor gazing. The Leonides are supposed to be visible towards dawn.
I'm in the midst of the Appalachian mountains, pulled into a parking lot with a dozen big rigs. The sky is black and stuffed with stars, but none of them are shooting. It's bloody cold, so I'm snuggled into my sleeping bag enjoying the rarely seen show.
Odd bit of trivia: I-76 was the first "interstate highway" built. They used the railroad right-of-ways and tunnels. If we ever get really high velocity rail, it would be ironic (and make sense) if they ran on highway right-of-ways. Coming full circle.
