Hi, I'm Arcadia Easterwood!
I'm just a typical chick trying to make my way through life, or 2 lives, as the case may be.
The blog? Well, let's go for random observations, frustrated rants, philosophical musings, and everyday silliness, probably based on some mix of RL and SL. Really, it's going to be about whatever the heck I feel like writing about that day, just deal with it, ok?

Arcadia cries for a little girl she never knew

I'm a bit shaken right now, a bit upset, and it's about something that happened a long time ago, and it's not something that I can do anything about.
Church choir practice was tonight, and our group makes a practice of sharing the good and bad things happening in our lives and the lives of those around us. I myself in fact asked the choir for prayers for a family friend involved in a car accident two days ago - he was hurt (not too seriously) but unfortunately the other driver died.
But that is not why I'm upset...
Today marks a very sad anniversary in the life of our choir director. Ten years ago today, one of her piano students, 8 years old, died when she dug a cave too deeply into a snowbank and asphyxiated. It's very sad.
Unfortunately, I am always *terribly* affected by stories like this. It is largely because I am a mother of two children of approximately that age, I know (and now I have something else to add to the "irrational mom fears list"). I know that this was "merely" a tragic accident and not something truly horrifying (like abuse, but let's not go into that now or I'll *really* be in bad shape). But I know I'm not going to be able to let it go, probably not for weeks. I'll probably have nightmares and/or be kept awake by it for several nights.
Part of me really wishes that the choir director hadn't told the story (it was not something that I remembered from the news back then). But I understand that she is grieving tonight and that her family is grieving tonight.
And so, please forgive me for shedding a few tears for Emily tonight...

You have a kind heart. I am always touched by those who feel the pain of others whom they're not directly involved with.
