Chicken Fried Bacon with Cream Gravy

I just realized this deserves its own thread here.

Chicken Fried Bacon with Cream Gravy

Surprisingly it is on the menu at a number of places.

Angel's Icehouse <-- reported to be available on request but its not listed on the website menu. The menu looks like they will chicken fry just about anything.

Chicken Fried Bacon - Sodolak's Country Inn - Snook, TX | The Eaten Path <--- invented here by Mr. Sodolaks.

OMG it even has a Wiki page of its own.

Should be served with country sausage gravy to peg the needle on the cholesterol meter

ETA: I'd order it in a second - but maybe not a second time

I'm afraid to try this. I'm sure it will kill me instantly, and the ghosts of all the pork and chicken I've consumed over a lifetime will laugh at me and dance on my grave.

Don't rush through death. Savor it. Stop to smell the bacon along the way. You only die once.

The problem with this thing is that I'm not sure which part of it is the food. Bacon, breading and gravy to me are all things you PUT on food. It's like they took out all the food and just have the add-ons.

It must be awfully salty.

It's funny how being strict (because of being scared into it, really) changes your taste buds. I used to like salty greasy things once in a while and now I'm not even tempted. I don't even like french fries now.

Edit to add: well ok, I will have a bacon strip once in a while. With eggs. Like, more eggs than bacon.

Sounds reasonable, with a little melted butter.

Its supposed to be good with ranch dressing too. Not all at the same time.

Never wish away your time here...

But, OMG!!! It would be hard to resist trying it at least once... and, Bard's probably right about not needing to do it again...

You bet, my Momma fried things in bacon fat on occasion. I recall it used to be common for people to save all the grease drippings in a can and resuse it for frying.

Okay, if you leave off the breading. Even regular bacon with maple syrup would be okay without the breading, if there were some eggs involved along with it.

It's the idea of wrapping bacon in a deep fried batter I can't quite wrap my brain around.
