*ahem* Removed loadingscreens. Lots of extra memory free now. Instead the loading screen will now fade everything to grey and apply vignette as well as alpha blend in the progress bar and darken the world view a bit. Needlessly to say that greyscale and vignette only work with active Deferred Rendering. No fancy TP screens for non Deferred users.

Upgraded to 14.4 and, alas, it doesn't seem to have helped with getting shadows to work right in Black Dragon viewer. Any other suggestions?

I have this vague feeling that this has happened to me once before, and I sorted it out somehow, but... my mind is drawing a blank.

I think its a shader compile error. Could you send me your log file? ATI had lots of these in the past and still has them with certain things especially those my Viewer does.

Today i decided to give Motion Blur again a try, quickly ported it over from Nirans Viewer which had it from LL's repo's and fixed it to work with Materials surfaces and tweaked it a bit to react only to faster movement and toned it down in strength a bit.

Yes this is object velocity based motion blur, not BLUR-ALL-THE-THINGS camera based motion blur.

Note this is a still picture. It looks awesome in fluid movement and even with very low framerate it looks extremely acceptable.

Oooh. Camera based or Velocity based?
(Both at once would be be more realistic...)

And yes. Both at the same time would be more realistic, MAYBE, just MAYBE i could... reuse this motion blur for camera based motion blur and tweak it like this so it isn't as painful...

Niran,

Would be happy to provide a log. How does one get the logging going, and where does it save it?

It does a log automatically all the time. It cannot be disabled and can be found in:

C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\BlackDragon \logs

It is called BlackDragon.log which is the log for the last run and BlackDragon.old for the previous (the one before the last one) run.

Still not getting shadows

After updating to 2.3.9.7, and even after trying the experimental 2.3.9.8 (which is looking really good so far), after trying every combination of deferred settings I still am unable to get any shadows cast by my avie.

Never had this problem with any version before now, and it's getting in the way of taking pics. Is there something I've missed here?

Specs:
i5 4670k 3.8Ghz
GTX650ti
16GB ram

Make sure you are standing in an open area where shadows can be cast, make sure the floor is not fullbright as it doesn't receive shadows, make sure your Avatar is not fullbright, also make sure you have Deferred Rendering enabled, Ambient Occlusion on and Shadow Amount set to Projectors.

Otherwise, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send me your log file, all these people having issues with shadows and deferred not activating and i can't fix it, i don't know what causes it because no one gave me a log file yet.

For anyone with problems activating shadows, have a look at this:

Black Dragon Viewer Forum • View topic - Potential fix for shader compiling issue.

Tell me (or vote) if it fixed it for you, if not, please send me your log file afterwards.

Just to note here that I was one of the ones reporting the issue, and it's now fixed. Thanks, Niran. Going to have some fun trying out the possibilities for photography.
