No buttons. No menu.

Direct mind control. The lack of this is ruining my immersive experience.

Get busy! Hurry!

Damnit. I knew i missed something important. How could i forget that more buttons = more immersion.

I totally forgot the math behind this.

Buttons which take up an increasing amount of free screen space exponentially increases immersion.

I should throw all the UI away and just plaster everything with buttons.

Casey, i think, wants you to get rid of even the subtle buttons you do have and just let her control SL directly with her mind. No button clicking at all! Even one button at all ruins Casey's immersion. Or at least that's how i read it. i also read it as she was joking too, but i guess one can't always be sure on that sort of thing...

i like the new look, even the paint brush effect, makes me think of gw2. Did your viewer ever get listed on the TPV list? You said you were waiting on it??

I have a complaint, I downloaded and installed Black Dragon and yet despite using it for a week now I have still seen no pink naked bunnies.

Do I have the settings wrong? What hack do I need to make them show up?

You have to send Niran a PM and ask for the identification of the IRC channel. Then, take a screen shot to prove you are using Black Dragon, and send it to him/her over IRC. Within two weeks, you will receive the super secret login password. To be on the safe side, DO NOT log in at work. Those bunnies are absolutely NSFW.

Also, yes. I'm waiting (still) for TPV... Oz told me the review is done (3 weeks ago) and its basically just waiting for other "possible" TPV's and other licensing stuff to be successfully reviewed. I do get the feeling tho that Oz is letting me wait on this one because he's thinking i'm working on that Snapshot floater with filters for them which i'm not allowed to release before LL does. He said if i can make filters available and a big live preview for normal snapshots in their LL Viewer i'm allowed to release it in my own Viewer before LL does. I have to talk to him and tell him that i'm currently not working on that as my TPV release is already done, packed up and waiting since 2 weeks. YES IT IS RIGHT HERE. It just needs to be uploaded.

So far so good. I am am getting some nice FPS from the viewer and not real bugs jumping out at me during basic use. One thing is was wondering. Does the viewer have a basic "default" setting as far as preference for EVERYONE when you load it, or does it look at my computer and say "Hey, based on your computer, these are YOUR default setting"? Also, are the asterisk "*" signify the default, or do they signify the maximum setting in the LL viewer?

Black Dragon Viewer

The star means it's the max on LL. (Outside of debug editoring it higher)

Particularly useful for checking LOD's on your content to see what LL sees.

(Unlike *ahem* some fire-themed viewer which doubled the max without telling anyone, so has content made on it that LOD's poorly on any other viewer.)

(KAHOOTS CAT. I'm upset it's ruined on default LL max settings, turns into an eye-popping alien.)

ok so I'm standing outside my home (sim settings are Penny's windlight) watching the rays of sunlight through the trees and the sun's reflection on the water..

Niran? You nailed it.

The Viewer has certain defaults, these defaults are divided into Main features or Shader enables and Finetuning options.

Shader Enables are set to a default that the Viewer thinks is good for your system based on your system information and a GPU/Feature table. These options include Vertex Shader, Atmospheric Shader, Post Process Glow, Deferred Rendering, Hardware Skinning, Shadows, Ambient Occlusion, Depth of Field and probably some others, mainly all stuff that is considered a major graphic option.

Finetuning options are set to a given default i usually tweak over time, these options are usually hidden away in Debug and they default to whatever i set them to, your system does not have any impact on them. Such options are Shadow Resolution, Shadow Blur Size, SSAO Factor, Size, Max Size, Depth of Field Resolution, Circle of Confusion, FNumber, Bumpmapping Strength, Tone Mapping Settings, Color Correction sliders, Vignette and so on. Pretty much everything that doesn't enable/disable a Major graphic option. Keep in mind that all newly added graphical options such as Tone Mapping, Color Correction and Screen Space Reflections will count as Finetuning options because they are NOT added to the GPU table and/or feature table, they don't change depending on your system.

You can open the featuretable.txt to see which GPU level changes which Debugs to what.

EDIT: Gonna save you your time and do it myself

Code:
RenderAnisotropic				1	0
RenderAvatarCloth			1	0
RenderAvatarLODFactor			1	0

I would like to try this. What is the worst that could happen, right? How exactly does one open a glsl file? Once open, I only need to remove #if GODRAYS and #endif?

I did used notepad++ executed as admin to open the file. Ctrl + f shorcut to open Search window, type "god". Search repeadly and remove the # to uncomment the two blocks of code (lines 376/402 & 743/746). Save.

Come back and tell if it worked for you. It didn't for me ^^'

The godrays all struck me as quite interesting so decided to try out the viewer, and for some reason shadows and such are working very oddly. Shadows will appear on objects, but not on terrain, and I'm not strictly sure shadows are at all working on my avatar.

Here's some relevant details:

Black Dragon 3.7.5 (31492) Apr 3 2014 08:13:34 (Black Dragon)
Release Notes

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz (3403.34 MHz)
Memory: 16340 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 8 64-bit (Build 9200)
Graphics Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series

Windows Graphics Driver Version: 8.17.0010.1191
OpenGL Version: 4.2.12217 Compatibility Profile Context 12.104.0.0

Not sure if it's an issue with my graphics driver. No problem with shadows on Firestorm. I reverted the godray edits, just in case, but that does not seem to be the issue.

ETA: On a separate note, turning off Fullbright from the preferences is an absolutely amazing thing. I always wondered if it were possible to toggle it off and on clientside, and obviously, the answer is yes. Would make a lot of baked lighting builds more useful.

That might be because you're supposed to REMOVE the lines, not "uncomment" them - they are preprocessor directives not commented-out code.

Using SciTe, I opened the file and deleted the the following:
#if GODRAYS
and
#endif
I did not delete anything in between the two words.
I then saved the file and logged back in. Nothing. Is there a step I am missing?

Quote:

float last_shadsample = 0.0;
shaftify = 0.0;
float roffset = rand(vary_fragcoord.xy + vec2(1));
vec3 farpos = inPositionEye;
const float maxzdist = 128.0;
farpos *= min(-farpos.z, maxzdist) / -farpos.z;

vec4 spos = vec4(mix(vec3(0,0,0), farpos, (rays-roffset)/(rays)), 1.0);
last_shadsample = shadamount = nonpcfShadowAtPos(spos);

for (int i=rays-1; i>0; --i) {
vec4 spos = vec4(mix(vec3(0,0,0), farpos, (i-roffset)/(rays)), 1.0);

shaftify += this_shaftify;
}

shaftify /= rays-1;
shaftify *= shaftify;
shaftify *= 0.5;
#endif
}
Changed to

Yes. Both words taken out at both locations. Does one windlight setting work better than the other? May just go work on the water reflection.

It is windlight-dependent how emphatic the effect. I saw clear rays with Penny's windlight day cycle.

I like it, I'm not going to switch back in a hurry

Not sure if it's an issue with my graphics driver. No problem with shadows on Firestorm.
Just for the sake of it, I'd recommend trying the 14.4 driver release.

I'm very happy with its beta release and its performance, at least in Firestorm. Previously, I had to use a patch file from an older driver to stop UI flickering and it's become obsolete with the current driver.
