My Mood: SL Join Date: originally in 2011's February, But my current avi was born in 2012, November Client: Official SL viewer | Hi everyone, Is that possible that there is a viewer which has mesh, but doesn't need any SSE2 support? Because my processor hasn't got any SSE2 support, and the official SL viewer requires that. Thank you in advance, Loretta |

My Mood: Client: I try all of them, but for everyday use it's Cool VL Viewer. | No, there isn't any viewer made for Second Life that shows mesh that doesn't require SSE2 capability. |

| Are you sure your computer doesn't support sse2? I have run older and cheap computers on SL. The Compaq SR 1950nz, that I bought used in Sept 2008 for $175 has sse2! I used that one in SL from 2008 to part way through 2009. If your computer is older than that one, then I'm afraid it is time to upgrade ;-) Although it's always best to get a new computer that's a bit beyond what you think you need, I bet you could find a decent older machine capable of running a mesh viewer (slowly) pretty cheap. My old SR 1950 can't be worth more than $100, although I would *not recommend it for today's SL ;-) My currently in use backup computer is a Compaq SR5710 and I think it could be bought used for $250 and would be capable of running a mesh viewer on lower settings. Are you really positive that your current computer doesn't support sse2? Maybe it's just not working right? Last edited by Robert Jung; 07-03-2012 at 07:46 PM. My Mood: SL Join Date: originally in 2011's February, But my current avi was born in 2012, November Client: Official SL viewer | Dear Robert Jung, Thank you so much for your reply! :-) The truth is that, I am not sure about I don't have SSE2 support now, because a software said today I have. But unfortunately, the Second Life 3. viewer won't run. :-( Thank you very much for the computer recommending! I will look on the online shops for them. You are truth. I should upgrade. Thanks a lot for your help! :-) Best wishes, Loretta |

I think with that old computer your only option is Rainbow Viewer, like Han already mentioned. | |

| Are you very low on cash? As in broke? ;-) If you talk to the tech person at work/school, they may be able to find you a 2005/2006 era XP machine for very cheap or maybe even free. That wouldn't be a ideal machine for SL (far from it) but at least you should be able to run the viewer and walk around slowly ;-) |

| Check out garage sale, Freecycle, and Craig's list, just make them boot it up for you before you buy. I sold two old computers of mine that would run SL, not great, but would run it, for $25 each a couple weeks ago, just to whittle the number of computers in the house down to four. Maybe even post an ad saying you need a working computer and the minimum specs you need, and what you are willing to pay. Good luck! |

| New (?) computer While an older XP could work, if you have some money to spend here is an idea of what how much will buy" good" and how much $ will buy "better": -A "basic" lower end, new "home" computer for $350-450 will work *OK -But- an entry level gamer computer for $550-650 with) will give you much better frame rates and the chance to move the sliders to the right ;-) -You do not need a high end game system. -Get a good card. If you are on a tight budget a low end end card ( 420/520 etc) could work sort of OK, but if you can afford it, the 2nd number for NVDIA should really be at least a 4 (440/540/640) f. It's much better if the 2nd number is a 5 and the number 6 in the 2nd slot (560/660 ) is what SL really wants. Any card higher than a 6 is for the experts. Get an adequate power supply for your computer and card. A quality 350 watt power supply may be OK for the lower cards but you should get a quality 500 /600/700 true watt supply for a 560. Serious folks go for 1000 watts but I doubt you'll need that ;-) (btw I am *Not* an expert -others can give more detailed help but I hope this general info can get you pointed in the right direction) good luck! My Mood: SL Join Date: October 2004 Blog Entries: 1 | I was really surprised when I started seeing the benchmarks for the Intel HD 3000s, and didn't expect it to work in real world, but having used one in my last-gen MacBook Air for about a year it was more than acceptable. The 4000 series is even better; I have one in my current laptop, but this also has an nVidia 650M so I haven't yet needed to try out the Intel card. |
