Yup, this looks like one of those "gradual V1 breakage" things LL and Jessica have been warning about for months...

Thanks for the tip. I ran into it for the first night doing some firestorm testing last night until someone told me it was expected behaviour. Just as I was about to write up a firestorm JIRA for it.

Maybe I am wrong but shouldn't the correct thing be to set the focus of the eyes to face front when you have lookat for yourself turned on? Sure it would not be perfect, but it would prevent you from looking strange while you edit your hair.

Luckily for me these versions have my update notification code so I can annoy them to update.
In phoenix? What about versions prior to 1591?

Nope, we tested our viewer back and forth, the inbox just works and needs no viewer support.

The situation in Phoenix is not as drastic as it looks. It's merely Ansariel's bug that she put in a new icon for inbox in the viewer code, but forgot to bundle the .tga file. Thus you have a missing icon. It looks super ugly, but the function is not actually affected, it works just fine.

Bullshit. The inbox works just fine in viewer with no special support for it. That's a case of a (recent) Phoenix bug, not the case of "gradual V1 breakage".

Copy and Wear can be broken now though.

Newest Second Life viewer won't work on Windows 2000. I'm not aware of anything preventing this straight in viewer code, however...

1. libtcmalloc doesn't work in Windows 2000 because it relies on some newer APIs. Maybe there's some hidden setting there to make it do so, but i'm not quite sure.
2. viewer since recently uses boost::coroutines. as it is, they're compiled with Windows XP support, also requiring a few system calls not present in Windows 2000. Could be worse, next up XP could be ditched cause Vista brings more goodies for coroutines.

No, just the 2 Phoe mesh versions, 1591 and 1600.

Those versions don't have some of Herni's recent inv work which caused this issue because 1591 and 1600 are missing an icon.

Not a problem.

I'm pretty sure that any system that you can still get Windows 2000 drivers for is not going to be happy running recent viewers. My last Windows 2000 box I had to use USB audio and a PCI Ethernet card because there were no Windows 2000 drivers for the motherboard audio and Ethernet.

may I make a suggestion? That is, if you do not mind me using the terms "XP" and "upgrade" in the same sentence

Oh, I can use them in the same sentence: "I didn't need to downgrade to XP, I upgraded to Ubuntu."

1185 is the last without mesh, 1591 added mesh, 1600 had some extra fixes for issues found in 1591. You should wait till these next one is out, it might work better for you.

I had a dream last night that I was asked to be PR spokesperson for Firestorm, and everyone was yelling at me.

Anyone watch the Treet TV conversation between Jessica and Oz?

I struggled through part of it -- the stream kept on breaking up and losing sound -- but before I left, Oz seemed to be saying that plans to break llRequestAgentData(id,DATA_ONLINE) are on hold while they try to work out how to accommodate legitimate uses for it (and he gave the impression that won't be any time soon).

He didn't seem worried about older, non-compliant, versions of Phoenix since other changes that LL plan for the next few months will make users "want to" (his phrase) update anyway.

What wasn't clear -- unless it was discussed later on -- was whether users of older versions would "want to" update because of something LL's introducing they'll want to have, but can do without for the time being, or whether it's because otherwise they'll be able to log in but will find LL's changes have broken something important and they can't use their inventories or something.

The example he gave -- at the moment people on older viewers can't see mesh -- suggested it was the former, but I'm not sure how much to read into that.

I wasn't able to get back to my computer till a hour after it started and apparently it was running late, but that didn't matter really since the treet.tv seems to really not be able to run a stream with 200+ watches without it failing.

Hopefully the recording isn't as bad or take 3 days to edit like the last one.

Yeah ... new shiny doesn't mean users switching. If anything as mesh demonstrated, new shiny gets ignored till it's forced on the V1 users with a TPV backport.

As much as a respect Henri, I do wish he would refocus his talents on making V3 better than finding ever more ingenious ways to put sticky plasters on V1.
