Thanks but if performance were an issue I would probably go with firestorm. I have managed to tweak the graphic settings on it to the point where if I see the FPS dropping below 40 in my home sim I wonder what is wrong. I run phoenix so I have a baseline to compare features -- as a tester it is invaluable because I am always thinking 'how did this used to work'.

I've been really thinking about this, especially with all the "OMG...SKY FALLING" comments that we see all over the place wrt the TPV's and SL.

I really don't think it's in LL's mind to shut down TPV's because it would not benefit them in the slightest. Their own viewer cannot house all the cool things people use the different TPV's for. It would be the most difficult, clunky and hard to figure out UI we've ever seen. There is no one 'right tpv' because many people like A but not B or prefer C but will use D, A and sometimes B. It depends on what their doing while in world, what their computer allows for, etc. It's not a one size fits all by any means..

LL doesn't earn money from their viewer, it's the 'basics' I guess if you want to narrow it down. It gives a great taste of the world, what someone can see and generally works on most peoples computers (for the most part, I realize the older systems/non compatible systems...it doesn't). It gets them in world to get a taste of what SL has to offer.

They actually earn more money by keeping the TPV's active because it helps retain their users, the ones that spend money on SL (through land, uploads, shopping, tipping, etc).

Unless something major goes wrong with a TPV, I cannot see them suddenly pulling them from users. They are a business first and foremost and that is something (on a whole level, not an individual viewer level) people will not 'scream and get over while moving on to the next available viewer'. As a business, they want our money. TPV's bring them money and lack of them will mean less money.

I'd agree, but they have made some really boneheaded, mindbogglingly bad business decisions in the past to warrant some skepticism. I will grant that Rodvik may know which way is up, but the rest of them......I dunno.

They're just trolling. I mean, there is ONE viewer which has this feature and been reluctant to purge it, and she blames ALL TPVs for it. Great logic, huh?

But in a way, "more honest viewer exists" or "i have made a better viewer" is not quite a solution. The feature invades on privacy of everyone, users of this viewer or not, so by all logic, it has no right to exist, anywhere. Good thing LL have rectified that now.

The best part of this thread and similar ones over the last few weeks is what I've been able to observe about the behaviour and attitudes of the TPV developers.

Although there are a few that have impressed me, Trinity and Kadah for example, over all I find myself shaking my head more than anything.

Siana, 80 pages of "I hate Joshua" is getting fucken old hun.

Do you not complain about anything that isn't made the way you would like it to be made Arkady ? Are you capable of and have the time to make anything you want or need ? Are you saying that someone or some group who puts a product out to the public shouldn't be held accountable because an individual always has the ability and option of making it themselves ?


I am glad that Jessica came on this thread and explained some things about the lineage of Phoenix/Firestorm from Emerald and, at face value, she has put my mind to some ease that thier project, on a whole, does not value having features just for the sake of having features that others do not.

I also appreciate the acknowledgement from Tonya about how she would not stand for something unethical such as was perpretrated by a few of the devs that worked on Emerald. It took a long time for her to say that while she tried to stay non-commital about what she thought of certain features currently in Phoenix. She was, as usual, somewhat out of her area of expertise when addressing the critical public...she is not a PR person...she seems to be a coder who tries to express herself defensively, presumably because she feels there is a lack of communication from their project when it is being criticized, especially here on SLU.

I have done some of that criticizing myself, not so much because I am trying to get their goat or whatever, but because in their short past, they have made statements that were unwarranted and misleading, and because I wanted some clarification of what they said and what their intentions were.

I am also glad to see Kadah Coba coming in recently to help with our understanding of where Phoenix/Firestorm is going. Please stay with us...yes we are going to take hot pokers to your feet...but what you may get out of it in the end are some real believers which can go a long way towards making your TPV stronger than ever.

Arrehn, your the quiet one of the bunch even though your the head coder from what I can tell. You tend to stay out of anything not directly related to announcing a feature...no seeming personal view about what you put into it. That, I'm not sure how I feel about.

My mind still has some hesitancy over LGG's involvement...yes, he broke from the pack and tried to make things better after Frac and Phox got caught, but if I recall, it was after he himself had seen what they were doing, was worried they would get caught and asked them to stop, was told they had, sort of accepted that, and then found out later that they had simply moved it, which is when he decided to leave them, and shortly thereafter, Hazim was DDoS attacked and the walls fell in on them from LL. I wish he had decided to come on this thread and put a real timeline/summary/story of how all that really went down rather than allowing all the innuendo and speculation to continue.

What really kicked it for me in the end though were the sound recordings (Arabella), just laughing at what they could do.

At times, it has seemed that Tonya had the same kind of 'its our viewer, we will do with it what we want' and 'I'm not going to say that we won't do that, if that is what our user base majority says they want' kind of attitude. But, it is clear now, that Tonya has her own motives for acting that way and doesn't seem like she would be so uncaring.

I, for one, have to say, that even through all the trifling tribulations going on in this thread, that the Phoenix/Firestorm team did manage to gain some respect from me...and that I hope that it is a sign of things to come and eventually history will show it to have been but a growing pain towards greatness.

I rely on the posts here to inform myself and normally look forward to reading from those more skilled or knowledgeable or experienced than myself. You'd think that on issues like these, I'd be able to get that information and new insight from TPV developers, however as far as I can tell your presense here is more disruptive than anything. As far as I'm concerned, the sum total of your contribution can be summed up in that quote, basically it's been post after post of "I know you are but what am I".

I get that you don't like Joshua. We all get it. If it will make you stop I'll agree that he can be caustic at times, this is hardly news worthy. Can we drop it now and get back on topic?

The lack of maturity combined with the emotional instability and tenacity that you've demonstrated this last week is the very base of the griefer/troll cocktail. I don't know what you hoped to accomplish, but all you've done is make me very suspect of you as a person and any project you are involved in.

Now, if you don't mind terribly, can we please discuss something topical. If you find yourself unable to do so, can you please at minimum take your private matters to PM or start your own thread about all this Joshua out of respect for those of us who wish to learn something here.
