There really isn't any need for him to split time between developing two eventually converging viewers...and if you think about it...eventually, when they finally do converge...his will be the one probably with the most stability and the plethora of little differences that make it stand out.

It was the uptake in use on Phoe 1600. 1591 came out the week prior to December 12th, 1600 dropped the week prior the 19th. There were no stats from LL between the 19th and 2nd due to the LL holiday.

Actually, looking back at the data it seems that I found yet another bug with gdocs' new charts, all of the dates are shifted in that chart. Fucking Google.

I'm too lazy to redraw all the date markers again, but those were the only thing correct in that last one.

Tonya, I blog about SL and a quite a bit about viewers. I made the mistake of assuming Henri’s Cool VL was based on V1 code. He was gracious enough to correct my thinking. I made two inaccurate assumptions.

I thought it had taken Henri a long time to adapt V3 features into a V1 code base. After all it had been months since the V3 had come out. Other teams were releasing their V2 and 3 viewers. Finally Cool was updating. But, assume (ass-u-me) something and…

Henri says he was waiting for the Lab to get things stable enough for it to be worth his effort to start adopting the code. If I recall correctly he said it took about a month to get a V1 interface on top of the V3 code.

Since then features in LL’s viewer make it into Cool without much delay. So, I'll risk making the assumption that Cool is pretty much compatible with the LL viewer 3.3 code.

He has posted comments in my blog complaining about people making the assumption that a V1-Interface means one is using V1-code. I suspect if he is saying he won’t work on V3, he means he won’t work on the V3-User-Interface. But, ask him.

Don't even bother correcting Tonya, she won't ever learn. I doubt she even bothered to pull a diff between Phoenix and V2/V3. Right now, both CoolVL, Phoenix (now with parts from CoolVL) and Singularity are mixed codebase viewers, not V1s with some things added on top, not V2s with UI reverted to old, something in between. Already Singularity 1.5.6 started porting V2 graphics engine and base code parts and with 1.5.9 we had it complete, and progress of CoolVL was similar, we're all watching each other. Right now we have an experimental branch where we have wearables system from Viewer 2/3, but it needs a bit of UI fixup. Of course there is no well defined boundary in Linden viewers between UI and function, so it's more Henri's and our dedication to bring functionality and not some law of nature, and it will need some effort to keep up, but it's absolutely certain that we have two independent and one derived Viewer1 UI codebases now which are able to keep up. On the other hand, all the foundation is the same as newest viewers, so we really don't expect to get cornered anytime soon.

I think Henri stated somewhere on his forum that he had asked Oz whether it would be OK to revert to V1 UI on top of Viewer 2, and was said plain "no". Which is btw absurd, how would they even want to regulate that. And well, if you know Henri a bit, it was obvious what he would do, continue towards his goal from the other side.
