New Firestorm version is released

Changelog (HUEGH!) is here:

firestorm_maintenance_release_3.3.0_change_log [Phoenix Viewer]

And it seems like that with the preparations to move to the V3 FUI itnerface, Zi Ree (Animation overrider, Particle Editor, pie menus) also found that the FUI code is quite flexible:

Watch in fullscreen to see what Zi's typing.

Hey Argent. Check that chatbar out.

There's actually a boatloat of fit-and-finish work in this. Polishing, peformance, stability, bugfixes. If there's any stage performers out there, I added a tip-tracker. This should be a strong release before the new burst of FUI-derived firestorm development changes things up again.

Thanks for the post Chalice.

And of course-- If you're thinking of helping out with development, send a note! It's a great time to jump in.

Vintage skin is nice. Can't say I'll use it, but it's a dead ringer for 1.23's skin.

I'll go ahead and confess that I built the FUI Firestorm when they had the repository up a week or so ago and it was badass. If that was a rough version I can't wait.

Will give it a good thrashing today

Is there a stream anywhere for the office hours now ? They're not showing up on my MetaTV rss feed since October.

In case it wasn't clear, the Vintage skin option under development is just one of many FUI skins Firestorm will have available. Whether you are fan of classic looks or new ones, there will be an option available.

very impressive v1 optional interface, way Better then old firestorm attempt....

I may not hop back to firestorm due to the kind words mentioned about people still clinging old phoenix and v1 viewers, But i think Zi might have just saved thousands of people on sl....

Given that GUI is pronounced "Gooey" (not "Gee You Eye") you are pronouncing it correctly.

I thought that the v3 updates and beta viewer mimicked the v1 ui well enough. The optional drag and drop of buttons was done by ll. All fire storm did here was make a skin to allow people to cling to the defunct viewer. The only real change is the ability to stretch buttons and fit them, which is cool, but honestly not that impressive. People should be embracing change and going to v3 not being stubborn and sticking to v1 While I don't like the idea of sticking the skin on to make it near identical to a v1 viewer, because I think that will just stifle progress as a while, I have to commend the fire storm dev team. Because of their work with general tiny nit picky ui things in the viewer, it will most likely grab many current phoenix or other v1 tpv users and pull them over. Not by force, but because of the number of extra features in viewer three and the fact at this point it really doesn't seem like it is different from v1. So while I am not a fire storm fan at all and I have personal disagreement with the viewers existence or the devs, its a good job and they deserve a big thank you from everyone including myself.

I just watched Zi's video and as I watched it I realised that. having settled on Firestorm since the Beta, the faux old style interface now looks completely alien to me.

I spose I've moved on but didn't realise quite how much until today.

Latest version is good for me so far and I managed to run shadows for a whole afternoon! Thats a first for me.

I felt the same way while watching the video...despite the cumbersome dealings of the V2/3 based interface as it was designed by LL, I can say that I have gotten completely used to Firestorm's hybrid mode, even to the point of losing my track around Cool VL viewer on occasion

Arrehn, my congratulations and sincere appreciation to you and your team for such a fine release I am happily running 3.3.0.24880 with no issues whatsoever, and many of the little bug fixes make FS so much nicer to use now. It feels smoother in terms of frame rate, and even seems to use less memory than before.

One thing I did notice is that the inventory sort order still fails to persist for the 'recent items' tab, though this is a fairly minor problem for me. Other than that, I am very happy and quite excited about what the future will bring!

Thank you

The more the merrier! But, please don't release one based on original art/code we've created until after we have a chance to release it ourselves. It's still being polished up, but will be ready "soon"!

I believe his point is that this sort of thing has existed and he's had his out there for a while now. It's unfortunate that most cast a blind eye to their alternatives and frothed at the mouth.

No. No. No.

I don't care about the skin, but the flat chat overlay and docking the chat bar are a huge and fundamental difference between V3 and this. The way V3 handles chat is actually worse than V2, and that took work.

Niran, I think you've got your heart in the right place but I think you might want to rethink doing a V1 interface. That's a lot of time and effort you could be using to push your viewer and the technology forward which you've been doing a fine job with so far. If people want a V1 interface that bad direct them to Firestorm once they release their FUI version. There's no need to reinvent the wheel.

Besides, you really really really really don't want to attract the V1-zealots to your viewer. That's like wishing herpes on yourself.

Don't believe me? Go look at the Firestorm blog comments every time they release a new viewer. I don't think you want that kind of support nightmare.

EDIT: Before anyone gets their panties in a wad, there's a difference between "preferring V1's interface" and the levels of ignorance, vitriol, and hate being spewed on the Phoenix/Firestorm blog by their user community.

I hope the vanishing chat bar thing is optional, though.
