My Mood: Client: I try all of them, but for everyday use it's Cool VL Viewer. | Quote:
Use of any viewer is contigent upon what the individual users threshold is on trusting someone else putting code into their computer. Some viewers have been around longer than others and have built up a user base that have faith in that viewers developer(s). Even so, that doesn't mean that a viewers code is benevolent, as the Emerald Viewer fiasco proved. So, it really comes down to how much risk are you prepared for ? If it turns out that a viewer is not as nice as originally percieved, have you taken the appropriate measures to reduce your risks in the possibile eventuallity of a corruption in the viewers purpose ?

I thought this was interesting, because when I mentioned it somewhere else all I got were a bunch of blank stares. Then they reminded me that most of his "circle" is involved in a CCS sim, where "a few" of them use it. Apparently use of this viewer IS indeed spreading. |

What is your relationship with Insilco? If you are involved with privacy invasion systems and spyware then people will ... well the usual. Any viewer that has all the useless bloat ripped out and is secure is likely superior to anything LL could ever excrete.

My Mood: | I tried this when I saw the 64-bit version. Downloaded both installers in order to see if there was a difference in performance. Installed the 64-bit ine, went to install the 32-bit one, and it told me it was already installed. So it would appear it's only the installer that's 64-bit. Sent from my SCH-I905 using Tapatalk |

I meant it more as in, I didn't know of anyone using it to know if they had experienced oddities or problems. Knowing that it's amassing a userbase does inspire a bit more confidence than if was used by a very, very few. |

Client: Exodus, Niran's | The Exodus 64-bit version is still a 32-bit executable, it's just compiled with large memory support. Under 32-bit Windows, 32-bit applications can only access 2GB of memory by default. If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, 32-bit applications can access a full 4GB of RAM but only if they're compiled as "large address aware". So the "64-bit" version of Exodus is really just the 32-bit version compiled to see a full 4GB of RAM. |

Client: Exodus, Niran's | Oh yes and I almost forgot, the Exodus folks left us a Christmas message, it looks like they'll have a new version out (with the FUI yay) before the end of the year: Exodus Viewer |

Using the new NaCl lately, I'm seeing more and more "Exodus" appear over people's heads. Well, this prompted me to go back and look at it again. I mean, really look. That includes the blog post I had merely glanced over linked above. Oh my God. I didn't realize the amazing things going into / already in this viewer. I WILL by trying this when they issue their update. That new chat input bar? Amazing. Redraw button? Amazing. They also appear to have hand-crafted their own console-esque chat, which looks good even if I personally wouldn't be using it. |

My Mood: | I didn't wait for the update (needed a replacement viewer pronto) and even without the upcoming goodies I can say I'm impressed. I just hope people who see Exodus over my head won't assume I'm looking for combat. :-O ![]() Sent from my SCH-I905 using Tapatalk |

My Mood: | I'm curious as well, and I will probably install tonight. I'm getting good performance with Firebird, except for an annoying bug where it won't let two of my avatars load (and I have to go back to SL's V3 viewer to use them). I have read (I forget where) that the Exodus viewer really excels at large-pixel-format photographs, can't wait to try that out. |

My Mood: | I haven't had much time to poke around the settings yet, and intend to do so, but if anyone can point me to the part where I can tell this viewer not to announce in local whenever anyone enters the entire region I'd appreciate it. Thx |

My Mood: Client: SL Viewer 3 | OK, it is in the sidebar. Open the gear tab, then the "Various Settings" section. Under the "Chat" heading uncheck "Message when people enter/leave the region" |

My Mood: Client: SL Viewer 3 | Why would anybody want to turn away delicious cake? ![]() [ It appears that the cake message is the MOTD that the viewer fetches from the Exodus site. Maybe you could petition the developers to promote pie more fairly. ] Last edited by Cerise; 12-29-2011 at 12:35 PM. |
