I have 12GB. Should be plenty. I will disable the private memory pool setting and see if things improve.

I'll have a look at the memory usage. I'm a little puzzled, since my system has 8 GB, but I suppose just because it's there doesn't mean it's getting used optimally...
When the driver crashed it wasn't a BSOD, it was a blank screen followed by a taskbar notification that the graphics driver had recovered from a crash. The graphics card (ATI Radeon HD) isn't that old (whole system is less than a year old) but isn't a gamers' card per se.

Well, this time it crashed my graphics driver before I even had time to adjust the settings, let alone call up the memory display. Of course, that might have been because I opened a browser window to read this thread and find out how, since that's when it happened. Browser + viewer = crash is another recent sometime occurrence.
This was at the default install settings of high graphics with glow enabled. I restarted the viewer after I got the PC unfroze and brought down graphics to medium. Made the mistake of camming around a bit before I had the memory display up. Viewer goes poof. No driver crash, though.
Restarted the viewer again, got the memory display up. It didn't go above 606 MB the whole time. However, my first attempt to respond here while I had the viewer running froze the PC so bad I had to push the reset button.
I used to be able to run this viewer and have a browser window open. I don't get it.
Also, 606 MB seems on the low side with 8 GB available (64-bit).
I'm baffled.

im shocked....~600MB is where the Viewer starts , and you instantly crash for just camming around...gawd that doesnt sound for a random crash can you attach the log after you crashed?
it can be found in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Nirans Viewer\logs\Nirans Viewer.log
-looks like my Viewer has a problem with your ATI card (which is known that SL has problems with them)

and to disabled Private Memory Pool, well for me it looked that disabling it causes random crashes after time so i enabled it again

1.8 GB is way more and sounds more like a Random crash...why it crashes at all is a mystery to me... on normal usage it shouldnt crash (except it might be attacked by crashers but i think even that will be hard)...sorry i have no idea why it should crash just for camming around....

GAME OVER Mr. BUG!

You may notice this Snapshot was taken with the Snapshot floater , yup it works again! and you can now click Save and it saves where you saved it , you have to click save as to select another folder!

Doublekill!

EDIT: Local Bitmap Browser has been added , only Qarls Aligning tool is missing now which is sadly broken with the Shining pipeline and might not be fixed that easy
95% of all my Basic To Do´s have been done now , Build 8 Release is close

i´ve started to come with an update idea , i´ve put my Viewer into Dropbox , so everyone who is enabled can automatically sync the most recent available file versions whenever something changes , meaning that every start could look completly ...different... =D

-for those people that dont want to wait for a release-

if you are interessted , you´ll need a Dropbox Account , Dropbox program itself and you need to IM me with your E-mail which you used to register at Dropbox so i can share the folder with you , Dropbox should then automatically start to sync the Viewer to your desired dropbox folder (usually C:\Users\Username\Dropbox)

EDIT: 2 requests/things Adeon might like very much , the abbility to turn off/on each of the 4 Layers of the topbar (from normal to completly transparent) and the abbility to hide the fourth Toolbar at the top , making the toolbars slide up a bit and free the space for floaters to move up to the navbar =D

Is this available even if we're not using dropbox? (I like to keep background processes to a minimum.)

Hey Niran, first of all thanks for all the work you've been doing on this viewer. I've been using it almost exclusively lately because it's just hands-down the fastest and best looking client I've used on extremely high end hardware.

I do have a question though since you mentioned you'll be making the latest betas available to folks via Dropbox: I usually just compile my own but haven't in a week or so. Is the repository on Sourceforge up to date with all the changes in this build?

Hi Niran, I responded to your last post over on the RLV 2.7.4 thread. Will your next full version be based off of a RLV+Shining Fixes merge ?

So will you continue to post changes to your download website, or is dropbox now a requirement? Do you want the information PMed or sent in-world?

Fancy :3

I merged RLVa from the RLVa-1.4 repo into my 3.2.4 NaCl yesterday, but I commented out some lines in rlvui due to it using the old Sidebar and bottomtray. Didn't have the time to go through that and accomodate for FUI yet.

You now have a rlvui version that's adopted for FUI I presume? I can't find it on the sf.net repository.

Niran,

I've been lurking this thread for about a month now, about as long as I've been using your viewer. I love the direction you're taking it. Please keep up the amazing work!

At any rate, I'd like to report a bug. As mentioned by another user above, I too experience crashes with shadows enabled while camming around. Memory usage seems to sit at about 1.68 GB during most instances of the crash with little variance between crashes. Additionally, this seems to be happening in the exact same manner on the latest release of Firestorm (3.2.2.24336)

I'm attaching a log file.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28584767/NiransViewer.log

I dropped you an offline on MSN last night and i'd love to help beta test the builds you post to your dropbox. Let me know if this can be arranged.

Thanks!
