I think the most important thing to look at is that each of Cool VL's latest V2 backports are from SLV 2.7 unlike Firestorm. Cool VL has a chance of leap-frogging Firestorm and with a V1 interface.

It's interesting that Henri's on his way to accomplishing what LL probably should have just done in the first place to avoid all this endless V1 vs V2 crap. Just keep adding new features and keep improving things under the hood. I say this despite actually liking some of the V2 interface (it turns out that I actually *don't* like pie menus that much, after all, and the Favorites bar is quite handy for me)... but hey, if V2 never came to be in the first place, I wouldn't have missed it.

Oh well, hindsight is 20/20 and all that!

If they had REALLY looked at V1 and what needed changing, what features were lacking and had a more planned and logical approach as opposed to farming the job out half way across the world to people who had little idea of what SL was and how it was used, and then didn't try to ram the result down everyone's throat in what could only be called desperation, while insisting everything was great things may have been a lot different.

I like the Firestorm MetaHarper skin better than any v1 UI. Things are really starting to come together now from LL and from TPV's.

BUT, when v2 emigrated from Eastern Europe it was a big pile of shit. I am not going to disagree with that at all. They even tried to get Torley to sell it by making videos about how wonderful it is and the whole way through those videos you could tell by his voice he didn't agree with what he was saying.

CoolVL 1.26.0 is now the stable viewer, 1.25 will be retired at the end of the year.

A new experimental viewer 1.26.1 is now in the works.

v1.25.0 users are highly encouraged to upgrade to v1.26.0.

Added a parcel icon (a small, stroked eye) in the status bar for the new avatar visibility parcel setting (note: the icon I made matches well the legacy icons, but not too well the v1.2x icons: if you don't use the legacy icons and want an icon matching the v1.2x ones, feel free to send me an icon of your creation ). Also made it so that the legacy icons could be used with the Silver skin.
Fixed the missing "Bandwidth" and "Packet Loss" labels in the tooltips for the corresponding status bar indicators, and improved the status bar code (speedier, cleaner code).
Implemented a new PlayChatAnims setting, allowing to either always play the whisper/say (nodding)/shout animations when chatting (default behaviour, like in other viewers), or to prevent playing them on pure emotes ('/me waves in greetings.' is a pure emote, without 'spoken' text by the avatar, '/me waves, "Hello !"' is not a pure emote since the avatar said "Hello !"), or to never play them (useful when sitting on as object that makes your avatar play a low priority animation that the chat anim could override and ruin). The checkbox for this new setting is available in the "Text Chat" tab of the "Preferences" floater.
Backported from LL's v2.7 viewer a few fixes for potential crash bugs in the renderer (even if I never ran into them) that I spotted while working on Mesh backport.
Repaired the broken Active Speakers floater (it was broken in v1.26.0.9). See this thread for details.
Added support code for llTextBox() used by group-deeded objects. See this thread for details.
Cleaned up all notifications so that the "Never display 'Resident' as the last name in legacy names" setting also applies to them.
Made it so that the Group Info floater now remembers its last position instead of always appearing centered on the screen.
Improved the music, media and master volume controls in the toolbar (fully rewritten for speed and correctness, properly differentiating the code paths for each control) and added the music/media URL in the tooltip for the play buttons.
Made it so that when wearing a male shape, you still can edit the Belly Bounce setting in Physics wearables. Fix by Tank Master and borrowed from the Phoenix viewer.
Hard coded Qt Webkit version number updated to reflect the actual Qt Webkit version in the About floater.
Various minor code cleanup and dead code removals.

IMPORTANT: the v1.25.0 branch is now to be considered deprecated. Please, upgrade to v1.26.0 (which is stabler, faster and implements the latest changes for the new features of the SL grid).

What I wonder about is how Phoenix/Firestorm will handle it if/when Henri and Sianna have mesh-capable Snowglobe-based viewers. Will they take the opportunity to tell their "V2 over my dead body" users that since other Snowglobe-based viewers support mesh, they can use them if they really don't want to switch, because the devs are concentrating on trying to get Firestorm to catch up with the official viewer, or will they try to adopt mesh for Phoenix?

According to Siana's latest posting on the Singularity site, apparently the Phoenix devs would be willing to add mesh support to Phoenix if it didn't take too many hands away from Firestorm. Kind of like what happened with the V2 avatar physics. The port was done and all the Phoenix devs had to do was merge it in (and make sure nothing was broken of course.)

ETA: and even if the Phoenix devs didn't want to do it, there's nothing to stop someone else from forking the Phoenix code and doing it themselves.
