I honestly do not understand why anyone continues to use Emerald as their client, whatever features it has.

I put the links at the bottom as a experiment, it is to encourage that people read the whole post. There are some reasons to assume that people are more likely to read the whole post before linking away. I know I myself have gotten totally lost in other things when I clicked on a link on a blog post, and sometimes find much later I never finished the post.

Love to hear more comments about that, does it work or not, or does it work but is just to annoying?

Mainly I find it disconcerting. When I want to keep reading an article or whatever yet bring up the links, I tend to right-click and open in a tab.

Joking aside, this whole Emerald fiasco feels like raw betrayal to me. This is more than just some geeky software app some of us tried to use and a couple of jokers in the dev house pulled a stunt. The Second Life viewer of choice is an investment of trust, and it's apparent now that it only takes one or two of those jokers to make customers feel like we can't trust anybody any more.

I'm supposed to trust a convoluted piece of crap posing as a UI that was outsourced to the Ukraine instead? I don't think so.

It makes me glad I deleted Emerald from my HD last week and installed Imprudence. I have always been and still am a supporter of Open Source - I use Gimp and OpenOffice and 7zip and Mozilla Firefox. I've had blogs on WordPress. Open Source works. But it requires that the developers and contributors take their responsibility seriously. Otherwise they risk inflicting unwarranted harm to the entire Open Source movement.

I'm so disgusted right now I can't even find the words to express my disgust.

This really is significant enough to get it's own thread though.

This is probably the most fucked up thing Emerald has done. Not only was it an illegal attack, but they involved ALL of their users who logged in between August 8th and August 17th in it without them knowing.

They don't even have a halfway decent excuse or spin for it. Their post explaining it as "silly shenanigans" is laughable bullshit.

LL really can't ignore this anymore. One way or another they're making a decision, either they go "We're okay with all the fucked up stuff Emerald is doing", or they go "We don't agree with this, and here's what we're going to do about it." Even if they say nothing at all, they're making a choice (namely, the first one).
