It is as I thought.... why are there people out there determined to make Emerald the Tool of the Devil, and the Emerald Devs His Spawn?

Is this another example of people wanting everything to be a yes/no black/white good/evil world where they don't have to think, evaluate and make their own decisions?

I am giving you a 7.3 on the Trout Recreawhoosits Slut Rating Contraption.
You are just shy of being a complete slut, but you clearly have one hiding within. So, congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut, but only in the best possible definition of the word.

Eh, it's been going on for a long time, and it's a mix of some of the developer's pasts being projected, dislike for third party viewers, attention seeking, code angst and 'I heard from a friend of a fiance's brother's secret lover's FBI agent cousin' gossiping, really. For the most part the latter when it comes to people spreading sillyness, but we're used to it :> It starts with pointing at Emerald's export repeatedly despite it not being the first public normal viewer to have it (nor being the viewer to have it ignore permissions), and ends with yelling 'oh gods they HAVE MY IP AND CONNECT TO THEIR SERVER IT MUST BE EVIL'. Of course such people need an education that login images don't get produced by the bytefairy.

But the person making these accusations (the 10 times thing) is quite technically literate. Capable of verifying it themselves, and has for me lost quite a deal of credibility with this second inaccurate "advice" to the masses. The first was on a totally different topic, but constituted technical advice to the greater SL population.

Which makes me wonder at the agenda, and also kinda sad. I used to respect this person.

No idea, really. Some people make me wonder.
Having said that, if somebody -can- actually reproduce a case where Emerald, with the default tools and features -does- use 10x the bandwidth, I'd love to hear about steps for reproducing the situation...I just can't think of anything that remotely should do so, really. Aside of the Utility Stream which streams some whispers to the sim..nope, sorry. Even that shouldn't cause that. Most of SL's bandwidth usage are asset/texture/sound downloads anyways, now what the viewer sends.

But I ask anyway: My inventory will not load fully in Emerald. Some folders are empty. For instance, all my poses will not appear in inventory, both 2 year old and poses purchased a few months ago. Poses I bought after starting Emerald shows up, of course. Same goes for clothing, boots, furniture. I don't panic because I have the ordinary SL viewer on the laptop, so I see that all are still there. I thought the latest viewer would fix it, but it hasn't.

Suggestions how to solve it? I clear cache before I start to run SL.

In the network tab of the preferences box, specify a different folder for the Emerald cache. You do NOT want both emerald and the normal SL viewer storing their cache in the same place.

Also, go into the cache folder for both viewers and manually delete all the files. The path should be something like c:\docs and settings\user name\local settings\second life

This may or may not fix your specific problem, but it's been well documented on emerald's forums that inventory issues can be caused by sharing a cache between the two viewers.
Yes, my inventory loads like a dream now! Thank you very much Katiem! Sorry for the late reply, I have been ill in RL.

We'll possibly move the emerald cache and settins to their own named default folder, so one can safely run Emerald and any other third party viewer simultaneously.

Just be aware that the same complication can still arise then between said other third party viewers unless they do something similiar :>

Oftentimes when I see bizarre accusations regarding bandwidth, inventory issues, et cetera being attributed to any particular third party viewer I just chalk it up to PEBKAC. Many SL users have tech-savvy enough to be dangerous without 100% comprehending what it is they are observing. (Hell, we all do in at least some aspect.)

Thus, they install a new client, start tweaking things (say, increasing the default bandwidth cap? utilizing more efficient rendering code? teleporting to a simulator with a ton of uncached textures?), and notice that their bandwidth consumption and ping times are off the chart. Immediately, the assumption made is "it must be the viewer". Even in the stock LL viewer, "the viewer" catches the blame for problems a lot more than it really should, as it is a convenient target and complex enough that most people won't care to dig down into the technical details of exactly why and for whom said issues are occurring, and under what circumstances.

Lately Emerald has been crashing more than usual and rezzing much much slower than usual. Is there a plan to fix this? Or has someone found a similar resolution?

I found after the new updates that this was happening to me also.
I changed from the optimized to the "regular" and the problem improved dramatically..

The FPS and texture rez rate were much faster even though I have a quad core and good graphics card.

Thanks I'll give that a shot and see if that will work for me as well. Thank you.

I have a problem where other AV's just stay blurry. Their prims load okay, but any slider clothing never loads. Sometimes orbiting myself fixes it (Deruth in Argen'ts flight feather), sometimes not.

Edit to add:

Yes, something's definitely wrong with the "Optimized" version.

I get way better FPS in the "Normal" version. And the bandwidth meter actually periodically pegs to the maximum I set.

I went back to the regular Emerald rather than the Optimized last night. Much much better.

A few tweaks are needed in the Optimized.

An upgrade later, I still experience high latency (and lag) after sitting in edit appearance mode for any moderate length of time.

I too switched to the "normal" version of Emerald, and I must say that it is a lot better running than the "Optimized" version. Not only does it open quicker, it just seems to run better all around now.

When I install a new version, I first uninstall the previous one then I search for and delete anything that it left behind, such as settings, cache, the program folder, etc. Then I install the new version and install the voice/proprietary pack.

Very intersting notes about the better performance of the normal version vs. the optimized :O

I'll relay that. Seems like something went wrong with the optimized compiling.

I will try to release an updated Snowglobe-Emerald along with that, to make sure the bugs are gone from that version too. The cache folder for the Snowglobe Emerald will be -different- than the normal one, to prevent any mixups, and so you can freely test it without the normal viewer cache being touched.

That download is somewhat older :> Not the one with shiny bugfixies yet. I want the release to be done by the same guy who wraps up our normal windows binaries, despite me doing the Emerald-Snowglobe branch maintaining. Sorry for the delays.
