I've been running the RC until the recent new release, then switched to the main viewer. I'm getting more FPS on Emerald than on either official release.

One problem I am having with the Emerald viewer is that none of the teleporting features are working for me. Double-click teleporting, and also tping to the location of someone on radar. I get the message: "Could not teleport. Unable to find a good teleport destination in this region." Any ideas why?

That. The alternate error is 'unable to teleport closer to destination'.

Hmmm. Even on my home sim?

edit: OK weird. I couldn't get it to work at home, but it is working now on another sim. Ah well. Cool feature though!

Does anyone know exactly how the temporary free texture uploads works? Is this through a documented feature, reverse engineering, an exploit? Has it been verified with any Lindens that it's okay that the viewer allows this?

just started using this and love it. Love the double-click teleporting. Not sure what problems your having Mourna? I'm just double-clicking anywhere on the land and I'm zooming across to that location.

Well see, it works like this. We got three linden employees held hostage at our office, that will keep them at bay. We found this awesome exploit to inject data into their web servers without them even knowing what hit them, and our first thoughts were "omg, we must let everyone do this! down with the lindens!! pitchforks! everyone!"

Nah, actually... you can find an identical feature in my plugins. It's completely natural and 100% eco friendly, here is how it works.

There are different ways to upload assets, as documented by some protocol documentation information off on the ll wiki. Permanent uploads cost 10l, like you know, but there is also a "local" option. That lets you upload the textures to the sim, instead of the world wide asset server of doom.

Why? Well , this is something your beloved viewer does automatically and naturally everytime you go to a region. Your viewer bakes together your shadow stripes and pants and uploads them to the sim as your baked textures. (this way, other people don't have to download 5 layers of textures just to display one).

Now, seince it is done every time you go to a sim, it's obvious that it is free, and that is exactly what is done here.

The sim deletes these textures every so often (less than a day), and. you cant get them to load on any other sim (seince they are local), but they are great for uploading textures for testing, or for showing your new boy freind naked pics of yourself that you want to be sure don't exist tomorow.

The lindens are aware of this, but I havn't gone up to one and asked them about it, your welcome to though. Seince it's all temporary , no one is getting hurt, and if anything, its just keeping people from going to open sim or a beta grid to test out their new skins.

Phew.
Oh, and the new one is faster if you copy over fmod.dll .

I loved how it was able to copy over the needed files by itself. That would be a great feature to add to other 3rd party viewers *cough* CV *cough* But besides that I didn't really need any of the other features it has, MystiTool does the AV scanning, and I have Natasha's Gear FL HUD for seeing if people are online.

I liked how it copied the files automatically, that was nice.

I've been testing it in a couple sims that normally give me problems on viewers other than Kirstens S16, and so far it hasn't crashed, but I'll know soon enough...

I REALLY LOVE the ability to disable the teleporting progress screen, absolutely love it

I actually prefer the GreenLife viewer scanner over the Mystitool scanner, but now I'm wondering.

Lots of sims ask to disable scripted scanners (like Mystitool) because of lag.

Is this viewer type scanner as laggy as scripted scanners? Or laggier? Less laggy?

Having a scanner in-client means much less lag on the sim than mystitool or similar, because the processing is done by each viewer, not the sim. So instead of 40 people in sim, making the sim run 40 scanners, each person runs a single scanner inside the client, resulting in a significantly less, if not negligible, impact on the sim, as the scanners in-client use data that the client already has.

Anyone have any issues getting the admin menu enabled? Ctrl-Alt-V is having no effect.

Also, I save snapshots to hard drive at 3000 x 2000. It keeps defaulting to screen resolution instead, which is a pain.

EDIT: basically, it won't let me deactivate "constrain proportions". I'm such a luddite sometimes. Bah.

I'm not using Emerald but isn't the admin menu enabled by Ctrl-Alt-D (as it is on other viewers)

Depends.

There are two hidden menus. One is called admin, the other is called Advanced.

Admin is activated with CTRL-ALT-V. It allows you to fly in no fly areas or use the build button in no build areas (though it won't allow you to actually build there, it just makes the button clickable)

Advanced is activated with CTRL-ALT-D and contains stuff like limit camera etc.

Emerald allows you to fly anywhere without enabling the admin menu. \o/

(Admin is also good for teleporting non-friends, though.)

I've installed both the Rainbow viewer and Emerald viewer in the last couple of days, and been trying them out.

I see no noticeable difference between fps between these two viewers, or between these and LL's official 1.22 viewer. However I notice a significant difference in bandwidth use. I have all of them set to max 500 in preferences. For the official one, and the Rainbow, they peak very rarely and idle at around 25-50k or so. But the Greenlife viewer idles at 150-200 and hits peak a lot, even when I'm standing in an empty sim doing nothing.

Incidentally I've just noticed something I didn't notice yesterday - the Rainbow viewer doesn't honour the bandwidth cap at all, it just goes up as high as it wants even though I have it capped at 500, I caught it momentarily getting to 1400 after a teleport.

Ok, I've been at the place that crashes the most on non-Kirsten S16 viewers for about 40 minutes now. No crashes. So far, this is my new favorite viewer

I finally installed Emerald about 2 1/2 hours ago. Haven't crashed yet!

I have been crashing for for months with the nVidia driver error, even after upgrading drivers, installing system upgrades, etc. You name it, I've tried it. This was the first time in ages I have been able to stay logged in for more than 20 minutes or so!

Will let you know how it goes!

I'm really loving the features of the Emerald viewer. It would be my new favourite, if I wasn't so baffled by the higher bandwidth usage. So I'm kind of nervous about using it all the time.

I've been using the GreenLife Emerald viewer for some time now and I love it.
Only problem I have with it, is sometimes when I TP to a new place and start to rezz, it freezes after 3 sec. and then I get dissconnected after 10sec or so..
Anyone have a clue what that can be?
I updated my gfx drivers, removed the old application folder and reinstalled the game.. no luck :\

Have you ever had TP's freeze while the progress bar went across on other viewers? I have--and it's really frustrating when it happens. If not, I'm not sure.

Another question that comes up in my head is: Are you using a wireless connection?

I tried out the Emerald Viewer last night and was pretty impressed. What does it mean to set your avatar "visually phantom?"
