I have no idea what the story is behind the picture of a woman on a stake, but I didn't read Hypatia's reply about "Noble Savages" as an attack on native societies. Instead, it seemed to me to be a rebuttal of a purportedly false ideal regarding native societies. To me, that is a crucial difference.
