With all due respect, the sun thing is actually quite recent; it first appeared in the 1922 film Nosferatu, which was a not-quite-legal adaptation of the Bram Stroker novel (the estate sued them for trademark violations). Bram Stroker only says that the vampires don't like the sun very much, and Dracula does walk around in daylight in London. What I haven't seen any recent adaptations touch upon is the fact that vampires have to sleep in a casket in their native soul (Dracula ships crates of soil along with his coffin) and that they can't pass over running water, except at low tide.
Of course, if you want to go back to the older sources of vampires, you could go back to the evil lesbo vampires from the 1840's: those have rather vaguely defined traits, besides the blood-drinking and a kind of hypnosis. Or you could go back to the Romanian legends: I wouldn't mind foiling a
SL vampire by dropping a million tiny prims on the ground, and then watching him count each one, since they're supposed to be OCD like that. The old way to foil a vampire was to drop rice around his coffin, so he would count it all.....
But yeah, most
SL vamps don't do jackshit in the way of RPing....
