I guess with PM you mean an IM :>

Well, the reason is simple. If you send a creator a notecard instead of an IM, they can handle whatever they determine more urgent at first after login, keeping the notecard in their inventory to look at it later.

They don't need to keep the tab open in the comms window to keep the text, they don't need to paste it anywhere, and if they crash, they don't lose it. Sure, they could just log all IMs, but that'd also mean searching the logs.

IMs - instant messenger like yahoo, aim, skype, msn
notecards - email
