An apology is nice (though Darwin's great grandson, Andrew Darwin, called the gesture "pointless" and believes it has more to do with reforming the CoE's image than to make genuine amends) but you know what would be even better ...

... for the Church to promise that the next time scientists publish theories and ideas that may contradict Church doctrine based on a formidable amount of evidence, they will scrutinize the theory scientifically with empirical evidence in a rational scientific way rather than demonizing, obfuscating, misrepresenting and/or silencing them.

But I do mean it when I say kudos to the CoE on this one. I'm looking forward to when American fundamentalists join the sanity.
