Oh I definately recommend the town I'll still be living in for the next two weeks. Just ignore the fact that we're sort of fleeing it ourselves. It's a nice little town if you're white, between the ages of 40 and 80, wouldn't dream of ever not voting republican, and go to church every Sunday.
Hopefully you won't need a job, because there aren't any. There are plenty of overpriced, oversized homes though. And fortunately with the massive foreclosures, there are lots of empty ones to choose from, if you've got 5 or 6 hundred grand.
The town just tripled it's police force and bought all new SUV's (no I'm not kidding) to handle the nonexistent crime rate. It's so nice being constantly reminded of the enormous police presence as you pass a nice shiny black and white on every corner through town, while they fill their ticket quotas, since it's not like they've got much else to do.
And they were very progressive the way they handled the growing homeless problem too. There was this park where way too many homeless were hanging out, sleeping, washing ... you know, living. The city very effectively solved the problem by paving over the entire park and putting in a beautiful water fountain, no benches, no trees, nothing that would attract all those dirty homeless anymore. Voila! Problem solved.
The schools are absolutely fantastic! Last school year when a group of kids (my daughter was one) wanted to participate in the
Day of Silence the high school was right on top of it. They sent us parents a lovely note
threatening promising to discipline any student who tried to promote the event.
Oh hell with it, we're out of here. We're moving to the Bay Area and looking forward to it! My couch is only a loveseat, but I do have a recliner that's comfy. Of course you'd have to pry the old man's ass out of it first. Good luck with that.
