I could be wrong, but I don't think this is going to happen.
Reasoning:
1) Smart blogs that I read have insider tips that McCain was leaning Lieberman middle of last week and was told point-blank by Dobson that if he puts a pro-choice VP on the ticket he can kiss the base goodbye. Palin was the only acceptable choice to the base, McCain had nothing to do with the pick - he did what he was told.
2) If McCain dumps Palin, he pisses off the base big time (yes, those same people who've donated 10 million dollars to him since the Palin announcement.)
3) The Palin pick has sent the Independents screaming in the other direction, even the ones who were leaning in McCain's direction.
4) All he has left is the base, and he can't win if they don't show up in Nov.
5) His only shot is to hold onto Palin and pray that enough evangelicals turn out bring him over the top. And/or pray that there is dirt on Obama, serious career killing dirt, somewhere.
So, I think she stays. All the other options are not acceptable to Dobson and his cronies and they are calling the shots.
