Alaska's Gravina Island (population less than 50) will soon be connected to the megalopolis of Ketchikan (pop. 8,000) by a bridge nearly as long as the Golden Gate and higher than the Brooklyn Bridge. Alaska residents can thank Rep. Don Young, who just brought home $941 million worth of bacon.
It didn't go through, that is $941 million of taxpayers money that did not get wasted. I for one am GRATEFUL that some politicians oppose this crap, I wish there were more of them! Having 2 that have a history of defeating such waste of OUR MONEY in the White House is GREAT, as far as I am concerned. |
"Despite the work of our congressional delegation, we are about $329 million short of full funding for the bridge project, and it's clear that Congress has little interest in spending any more money on a bridge between Ketchikan and Gravina Island. Much of the public's attitude toward Alaska bridges is based on inaccurate portrayals of the projects here. But we need to focus on what we can do, rather than fight over what has happened." - Paulin. McCain was among the congressmen she critisized.
And then.. She dropped it due to lack of fudning.
