So I'm having trouble making friends. Not for the lack of people out there, I'm just having trouble meeting them. I've tried sitting in the coffee shop and talking, but am having trouble getting into conversations. I do always ask if I can join them, but I feel like I'm intruding.

I've joined groups, but the ones I've found seem to have little to no activity. I'd like to look into some fantasy/medieval role play, but when I've gone to those areas I didn't know what to do or how to get into it. I'd really just like someone to show me around, so I can see if it's something I'd like. Also just to show me around a little bit in non-roleplay areas, so I can maybe meet some people to talk with.

Sorry for the uber-newbie thread!
First, welcome to SL and SLU Gaia.
It's so hard to find good places to hang and socialize in SL.
I assume from your name that you are female. If so please drop by Venus Beach. It is a very friendly women-only sim. If there is anyone there you will probably be welcomed with open arms.
Many of the girls are les - but not all. And no matter what your orientation, you will find a lot of girls who will be glad to share landmarks and other goodies - and you may well find some that can help you out. We have members who are just as new as you are, and some long-timers to boot.
Do come by - if I'm there you are guaranteed a hug.
Good luck!
