Thats one way to look at it I guess. Probably the reason in some cases.
I dated a really wild man-hating femme lesbian for a while who was both ultra-republican conservative AND nearly a fundie, she was so Christian. She was also deeply into BDSM in her RL. So she was like contradictions all over the map.
But a lot of people just shift to be more Conservative as they get Older, too.
