My experience with scripts is that any problems they cause are heavily, heavily overestimated. (I'm not even sure excessive scripts even
do cause problems with sim performance, instead of just with other scripts.) AOs could
maybe be a problem at something like Hair Fair, but given the script time numbers I've seen, scripted vendors are highly unlikely to be causing issues.

It would. The build and the people with attachments aren't helping, but the sheer number of avatars is going to cause problems all on its own. There's a reason that sims crash when they get too populated.
