Well I'm glad that my parents didn't feel the way you do, because they did hand me over a better world. Not perfect by any means, but small progress, and I can honestly say I've done my part to make it that way for my son.
What does being a sociologist have to do with anything. I'm a technical writer in IT. Does that mean I should not deeply delve into any other subject?
Group motivations are individual motivations, scaled. It's easier to change an individual though, but not by telling them "you're wrong!" Nobody responds well to being condescended to.
If you can show them how to understand why they're wrong, then that's the opening for group change.
