Gad, I have to go see my mother. She went into hospital to have a hernia repaired exactly a year ago, only to discover it wasn't a hernia but a swollen inguinal lymph node. The biopsy came back benign, which was a huge relief because there have been many cases of Lymphoma and Leukaemia on her side of the family and a lump there is a very common early symptom.
Anyway, another lump appeared this year. Her GP said it was a hernia again and this time she was inclined to believe her because the lump felt so different. She saw her consultant today, and after running a doppler test, he discovered it was a varicose vein problem.
This seems like good news given the alternative, but she's in floods of tears now and I have to go and see her because -- I think I've mentioned this before -- my father will eventually tell her to pull herself together.. which upsets her even more because she just wants to talk.
Jesus, it sometimes feels like I grew up and my parents became my kids.
