I know a person who says her whole island of houses was copybotted, while she was there (!) and she didn't even know it was going on!
That person was selling her houses on rented land, and she found out, so she contacted the landlord who shut down the store and froze the place, or banned the person, I think it was, so he couldn't come back, so they could preserve the evidence for the Lindens.
The Lindens came and got rid of it and banned the person who did it.
Of course, he can come back as an alt, and try the whole thing again, with someone else probably. But for all practical purposes, he is probably out of the business of selling HER things.
And since he didn't get away with that, maybe he will give up on the business of stealing and selling other people's things entirely, as not worth the trouble.
Nonetheless, this girl found it (and other things) so demoralizing she told me she was done with
SL. I tried to talk her out of it, since she enjoyed making her houses so much, but I didn't seem able to persuade her. I imagine having this happen might be enough to make a person decide the fun isn't worth it, or even that it's a sucker's game.
Anyway, yeah - if we don't even bother to AR the people, we might as well just put up signs that say, "Would you like all pur things for free to sell yourself? Just ask, and we will be happy to oblige."
This is a second-hand story, of course, but apparently the Lindens will get involved and shut them down, where they can. So it is worth it to AR the people when you can.
