I'm female and have a female avatar in
SL and all other places that let me have the choice. I haven't had the desire to be male, and when I wanted to make a properly proportioned male shape for a freebie to hand out, I logged on an alt to do it since I didn't want that on "me".

In Oblivion it mostly just seems to be a difference of what the NPCs call you from what I've seen, I can't speak for the Fallout series though. Yes, I know I nit pick
