Hey, I was a little weirded out by the furries when I started too, and now I'm related to them.
I look at it this way: When we're kids, we pretend to be all sorts of things, from astronauts to zebras...
SL is just the adult continuation of that. And, yes, there is pretty naturally some more traditional 'adult content' as well, but it isn't the focus for most people.
