I didn't really know that much detail about
SL before I joined. I had heard about for a while, but didn't pay much attention. I had played MMOs before, so I did know that avatars + internet = cybering for some. The gaming people I know would rather play FPSs or MMOs than
SL so they never talked about it. Only 1 said that they thought
SL was basically a gathering place for unending avatar orgies. But I think this is more a showing of his fantasy life than his knowledge of
SL.
The only person who warned me against
SL was my dad, which is kind of funny. He has known about
SL from a business perspective since it was getting started. He basically asked me, in a very kind way, not to be too stupid with guys in
SL.
As for the variety, I'm sure there's plenty.
