Not really aesthetics. More of a usability issue a vendor always is, and will be, in my eyes.
It's easier to just choose something you like that is put up in front of you, in an organized pattern amongst similar things, than having to scroll through a list of things you can't see the beginning and end of in most cases.
Then, loading times aren't synchronized as they'd be if the sim runs properly, but you're loading new sets of images each time you're clicking an arrow.
Same way I'd prefer a gallery instead of a slideshow on a website that has a big amount of mixed, unknown pictures.
