It's commonly done, for a variety of reasons - from needing a second account to test scripts & permissions without bugging friends every time to roleplaying elaborate multiple personalities. A second account costs nothing nowadays, so why not make one right away if you think you'll need one. The only thing I'd consider "poor form" would be to re-friend you current friends with the new account without telling them it's you.
