Now that's a good question.
Why do they ban people from the marketplace, too, instead of just banning them from the forums?
It might make some sort of sense to ban a person from the forums, but turning away their business as well? That's kinda suicidal for most any company, especially the more of it that goes on (and the more the word gets around).
I think some of what we see going on is people getting their heads too inflated by how important they think the thing they are working with is.
In other word, by thinking, for instance, that
SL is such the be-all and end-all of everything that their own customers from it will never dry up (in this case,
SL Exchange's customers, but this attitude is there in LL, as well).
Which of course is never, ever true. Things have their peaks in popularity (and we may well have already seen it, in the case of
SL, or may have already seen it for the types of residents who use SLExchange and OnRez).
And even when things are still going strong, it does not help a business to create enemies! By, for example, banning them summarily, for what they say on forums. (Or worse, for what they say on other forums.)
In my view, if they don't want a person talking on their forums, well, that sucks, but okay. But to toss them out of the marketplace entirely strikes me as petty-little-king-like behavior.
That part I never, ever got, either on the part of
SL Exchange or
SL itself.
(And then to keep their Lindens, too! That is the worst! That's pure flat-out theft in my book, including when the Lindens do it, unless that money was gotten through theft or fraud in the first place.)
I figure when
SL gets to be less popular, they might be less inclined to act like second-graders enjoying the power of throwing one of the other kids out of the popular kids' clubhouse. (They being SLExchange and/or LL itself.)

Regarding the two sites, my stuff is mostly down right now, while I'm repackaging. But I have always enjoyed both sites.
And I certainly have no particular love for the Sheep, so appealing to me regarding any lack of love I might have for those running SLExchange would be kinda pointless.
I much prefer the setup of SLExchange, visually and in just about every other single way. (Oh, except I do prefer OnRez being no commission, of course.) I avoid the forums there, though.
And I sell more with SLExchange (not that I sell bunches on either).
I do like having two different sites for sales, though, because that reaches more people, and there are people who prefer the looks and functionality of OnRez.
