I don't know if one properly calls
Punch Drunk Love a Sandler film or a P. T. Anderson film, but it does show that the Jerry Lewis of our time can do really well in the hands of a good director.
Bruce Willis was also improved under Gilliam's direction in
12 Monkeys, but he certainly was starting from a higher stratum.
