Exclamation Omega 3's for Depression/Anxiety/OCD symptoms

Reading the other thread about how many of you had trouble with antidepressants, I suddenly remembered that I put my own kid on Flax Seed Oil supplements about 4 months ago. She's been struggling with OCD symptoms and anxiety. I read a study about using Omego 3 fatty acid supplements for kids with ADD/OCD, Tourette's Syndrome and anxiety disorders. The results of the study were so dramatic that the parents of the kids in the study refused to stop the supplements when the study was over.

In my child's case, she takes a 1000 mg flax seed oil capsule twice daily and she has had a pretty dramatic decrease in her anxiety symptoms. Another benefit has been a very noticible clearing up of her acne. Her skin hasn't looked this clear in quite awhile.

One of the psychiatrists I work with told me that there are numerous studies currently looking at the role of Omega 3 fatty acids in depression too. As he put it, 150 years ago, our diets were much richer in Omega 3's and depression wasn't seen in the epidemic proportions of today.

Just wanted to put this suggestion out there for those of you who couldn't take prescription medication for your symptoms. I've started taking flax seed oil too. I'll let you know if I feel any better in a few months.

There are two main sources (supplement sources) of Omega 3's. One I've mentioned. The other is fish oil, which can be kinda yukky. But there is a company in Norway that makes a fish oil supplement called Coromega that's apparently palatable and doesn't give you fish oil indigestion.
