| Wait, are we talking about depressing endings or ragging on shitty ones? Because I'd like to lob a few stones at Donnie Darko, whose ending stinks up the rest of the film. The movie half-assedly flits from theme to theme, referencing them but not really exploring them, and focuses on its plot, dangling a number of interesting threads in front of the viewer, and then the end doesn't explain anything and doesn't tie into any of the themes. A good ending could have saved the movie; instead, the end result is incoherent and shallow. Bah. |
