| I cannot emphasize the difference between the three speeches tonight enough, and how it relates to how their campaigns have run so far.
McCain's was drab and uninspired, and took cheap, inaccurate shots at Obama to smatterings of applause and cue-carded cheers.
Clinton's was ME ME ME ME ME, with an audience that, while excited, was vitriolic to the idea that she hadn't won. One lady in the audience yelled out "You can't vote for Obama!"
Obama's was grateful to Clinton for providing a good fight, grateful to all the people who have been inspired to get involved in politics because of this race. It was inclusive to everyone, saying "we" have done this and "we" will do that, as opposed to Clinton's constant "I's" and "Me's." It was critical of McCain's policies, while staying away from personal attacks. It spoke to an idea of hope for the future, while remaining pragmatic about the struggles it will take to get there.
It was inspiring.
It was meaningful.
It was Presidential. |
