Taming Your Inventory

This is a massive tutorial and I apologize for its length, so please, if interested, you may wish to take it in stages or grab some popcorn.

INTRODUCTION

While shopaholics, Hunt addicts, estate owners and builders tend to have the largest inventories in Second Life®, even a smaller inventory can become unwieldy fairly quickly. And of course, the longer you have been in Second Life®, the more inventory you acquire.

For some individuals (depending on computer specifications) a large inventory may adversely affect various performance aspects of Second Life®. According to Linden Lab, an inventory in excess of 10,000 items will begin to affect your performance. However, as previously stated, this is largely contingent on your computer specifications. My own inventory is in excess of 50,000 items and the only time I experience a slowdown is after I have cleared my cache (which is to be expected).

Regular and/or persistent inventory maintenance could be the key to your sanity… not to mention your productivity.

TUTORIAL

I am holding a class on this today (anyone is welcome, by the way) and I will add a transcript of the class at the bottom of this tutorial page once it's over.

Cheers!
