Just when many folks were assuming the webmaster of MMOGCHART had died or whatever, he did a massive update to his
chart of MMOG subscriptions. Even though I knew World of Warcraft was the biggest game in the world, I was still surprised that it has
twice as many subscribers as all other MMOGs
combined.
He
only counts Premium members of Second Life (of which there are fewer than 100,000), but
SL still fares pretty well, in my opinion. Strangely, he no longer tracks There.com membership because they are free to play- omitting the fact that There has a premium plan just like Second Life does. (There's parent company,
Forterra, is focusing on enabling real-world corporations and organizations develop customized virtual spaces for educational and experimental purposes. There.com is almost a technology demo at this point, in terms of their priorities. Forterra is attempting to eat Linden Lab's lunch.)
After looking at these charts, I have two questions:
- How can A Tale In The Desert stay in business? They've got like a thousand subscribers!!!
- What the hell is Tibia?
