Don't get too excited, OLG is still full of bugs and lacking in key functionality. For example, avatars cannot transfer objects between each other yet, so there is NO commerce. So don't sign up and expect to be able to set up shopping malls right away. Finance isn't set up yet at all.
However, you can upload all the textures animations etc. you want for free. It currently charges you *minus* L$1, but your balance never varies
If you land wrong, you bounce off the terrain like a trampoline. Quite entertaining at first, then very annoying. There's no takeoff and land animations yet; you basically run into the air and then run back down to earth LOL!
There is as yet no standard starter inventory (although that should change in the near future). You have to upload all your own textures, animations, etc. and build everything yourself: skin, hair, clothes, trees, houses, poseballs, etc. etc. Like I said, this is not for people who live at the mall. It's true pioneer land. That's what makes it so exciting.
As for stability, OLG makes
SL look like the Rock of Gibraltar. This is alpha software land, kids. There's still a ways to go before this is comparable to
SL. However, most of the basic functions are present. It's like
SL was at the very start, only with things like flexiprims and sculpties in the mix from the very beginning, and a group of residents who've been through all this already and have the scars to show from it
