My Mood:

We interrupt your regularly scheduled threads...

...with the news that both Adam Z and I have released all that information we were holding back. It's at the end of the "Something Shiny" thread, so those of you who gave up because of the dramz, you c'n all come back now, y'all.

There's lots of news to discuss so let's start up a new thread. Among the news items:

-- OpenlifeGrid.com has officially relaunched its website, and announced a Foundation Resident program, which will start within the next 24 hours. Hitch up the chuckwagon and go west, young man; the pionner land rush is on!

-- Among the out-of-the-box features of OpenlifeGrid is the ability to CHOOSE YOUR OWN LAST NAME (Yippee!!) Also, you can set up a standalone sim for your personal use (which you cannot connect to OpenlifeGrid, yet).

-- Among future OpenSim developments demonstrated and discussed at an OpenSim meeting in Oulu, Finland, were:

-- A Modified SL Viewer (with OGRE 3D Engine)
-- A Modified Opensim Server setup
-- MESH used instead of prims!!
-- non-human skeletons/avatars/animations
(can define over 160 "bones")
-- Python scripting instead of LSL
-- Python Scripting controlling other objects (e.g. growing trees)
-- Textures can be delivered via URL!
(in other words, limited HTML on a prim!)
-- VOIP client and server for voice
-- multiple attachments for each body point
-- remote desktop on a mesh surface (VNC)

-- the company RealXtend wants to join and work on the OpenSimulator Project effort (Admini & Ludocraft). REX's code would be merged with the main project and their server code would be released as BSD.

-- Linden Labs is aware of all this; in fact Chris Collins from LL was at the demonstration.

So there you have it. Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines!!
