“In this world of numbness and information overload, the ability to feel is a rare gift indeed.”

There is so much happening in Second Life right now that it’s sometimes overwhelming. Consider this single post which features a casual outfit at a local coffee shop. But underneath, out of site, there a lot happening. Here are the bullet points.
So at The Arcade, PLAAKA and RH Design House both released coffee houses. I loved the reclaimed factory with the crumbling walls a lot but loved the table and chairs from RH Design House. There’s no rule I can’t mix and match so I did. The coffee house is on the plaza where the bench and music clock from RH Design House add a wonderful atmosphere. Shoetopia is opening in just a few days, on the 25th. I got a sneak peak and so very much love the build. It is built in an H, so if you go up one side of each part of the H and down the other, you won’t miss a single fabulous store.… Read the rest“In this world of numbness and information overload, the ability to feel, my boy, is a rare gift indeed.”

Pink Makes Everything Pretty

Altair’s dress for Collabor88 is as flirty as it can be. It comes in a range of colors and with a HUD to change the colors of the bow and the ribbon at the babydoll waist and the hem. I chose pink because pink makes things pretty.  This dress is all about the legs.  Which makes it great for showing off gorgeous shoes.  Exile’s hair is great for showing off everything, including the lovely jewelry from Minimal and the fabulous Amaya skin from Glam Affair. **SHOPPING LIST******

Casual Country Comfort

So, I love to laze about and read. This lovely Boho bed from DRD at The Arcade is big enough for lots of layers. My lazing cottage is the Daisy Cottage from HIVE for The Arcade. It has a lovely window that is perfect for some plants or pillows if you like hanging out front. In the background you can see a gramophone from Contraption, some artwork, a lemon tree, and The Secret Stores gorgeous vintage desk.

There’s a great couch made of pallets with blankets and colorful pillows from Kalopsia. The tile artwork is from DRD. The rug is from Kalopsia. The floor lamp is from Hive.  That gorgeous hutch is from DRD. Most of the furnishings in the kitchen are from my storage, though the ladder is from Scarlet Creative at this month’s Arcade. So is the great umbrella chandelier that you can quite see. There are actually two umbrella chandeliers (DRD & C.L.A.W.) at The Arcade and they are nothing alike. This gorgeous tray is from tarte. the serving plates and cutler is from Glam Affair.… Read the rest“Sometimes, when we cannot attain the freedom we are fighting for, we free ourselves by carving a new path to freedom.”

Lazy Days with Collabor88 and The Arcade

It’s a good think I got this gorgeous rare bed from the DRD gacha at The Arcade because it’s perfect for lazing about and so are some of the new releases from Collabor88
OMG, look at how worn this little dress from Hucci is! I am embarrassed to confess that I have one just like this except it’s pale blue. My best friend once told me, “Most people throw their sleepwear away when it has more than three holes in it.” She just does not know how incredibly soft a twenty year old sleep dress can be. And you know what, I wear a sweater with my sleep dress, too. My sweater is way too big and totally soft, too. Mine is teal. I thought about wearing those colors but thought it was just too similar, especially with the bed head. And flip flops, too! I like flip flops better than slippers which are often too warm. I wear them in the house all the time. I am not one for wearing leg warmers though, but they are gorgeous. I love this hair from Moon. It’s perfect for the outfit I am wearing.… Read the rest“Sometimes, when we cannot attain the freedom we are fighting for, we free ourselves by carving a new path to freedom.”

Overwhelmed with the New

Gizza released a gorgeous formal gown at The Liaison Collaborative. It comes in rich jewel tones, deeply saturated colors such as this rich ruby red. It has a full, flowering skirt that falls deeply in the back. These skirts are sometimes controversial. Sometimes they are a failure, but when well done, they are beautiful, flashing your legs while still providing the length of formal wear. I kind of think we should name them by how well they work. Hi-lo or waterfall skirts if they work and mullet skirts if they do not. By the way, Slink has updated their hands so they are rigged to the Bento skeleton. Note the very, not just released, but updated. What does that mean for you? It means that to have new Bento hands, you can simply update your old ones without an additional investment. How generous is that? How does it work? You go to the mainstore and click the redelivery terminal and the update will be sent to you. If you bought the multipack, you will get the whole shebang, the dynamic hands, the idle HUD, and a fifteen pose HUD of static poses.… Read the rest“There has always been an elegance to the application of excellence.”

AT THE ARCADE AT COLLABOR88 From the Archive

I am alive, and drunk on sunlight.

I am loving the outfit released by Zaara for Collabor88 this month. The February C88 showcased folk designs and how appropriate that Zaara release something representative of her country’s traditional, and still current, fashions.  I fell in love with the orangery from Milk Motion for the Arcade, or should I say L’orangerie? I also got a new pet at The Arcade from Jian. I stopped by to get a hamburger from the burger truck from Contraption for The Arcade, but it wasn’t open yet. My makeup is bold and colorful and part of the new makeup sets from Glam Affair, a massive release in coordination with the new Chloe Bento head. The gorgeous hair is from Exile for Collabor88. The earrings are from Kungler. The art is from Milk Motion’s set at the Arcade. ****SHOPPING LIST******

If you’re going to do something tonight that you’ll be sorry for tomorrow morning, sleep late.

Henny Youngman once said, “If you’re going to do something tonight that you’ll be sorry for tomorrow morning, sleep late.” It makes me sort of want to see one of his routines. I kind of think this little romper might lead to doing things tonight…so I will sleep late. You can find your own in Birdy’s gacha at The Arcade. Be sure to sleep late.

Coming or going, it’s delightful.

The shoes are from Ingenue and available at The Arcade which opened today.

Can you believe I got the RED hair on the very first pull in Clawtooth’s gacha at The Arcade? I was thrilled. I also was pretty lucky with the Birdy gacha, not getting a pile of duplicates.

The rings are from Yummy and also at The Arcade. I love the intricate details. My skin is Glam Affair’s Chloe made for the new Chloe Bento head from Lelutka. Glam Affair released several eye and lip makeup appliers that are worth a deep dive. They are gorgeous. ****SHOPPING LIST******

Our imagination is the only true freedom we have.

Our imagination is the only true freedom we have. Before you decide that is depressing and melodramatic, consider this. What really impinges on our freedom more than anything? Is it the government or is it the mores and expectations of friends, family, and community? What stops us from pursuing our dreams, the police or our fears?  There are many things that hold us back, health, financial limitations, even time, but for those of us who live in a relatively free society, we are the ones who limit our freedom. As a white woman in the United States, I am relatively free of governmental repression. Of course, there are many cultural limits on women’s freedom and if some get their way, there will be governmental restrictions as well. But given the continuum of freedom in the world, I am comfortably situated on the relatively free section. I have been arrested a few times for my political activities and always released with an apology. For people who are not white, police encounters are more dangerous.… Read the restOur imagination is the only true freedom we have

Välkommen

I love my new house from Barnesworth Anubis that was released at Collabor88 this month. It’s called Gansevoort which, of course, makes me think of Harper Gansevoort, a good friend to Gidge and me. One of the things I love about Barnesworth Anubis houses is that he lets us tint the houses, so we can be bold if we wish and find individuality in our homes. I have a new neighbor off to the left, but I don’t know who it is. They have an adorable fairy tale cottage, though, don’t they? I believe it’s from the architectural firm of Trompe Loeil.

Folkloric

I always like to bust up sets and mix and match because it shows that the clothing people make in Second Life is more versatile than we think. For that reason, even though the Irina cropped sweater I am wearing from The Secret Store comes with a beautiful skirt that coordinates with it, I chose to wear a different skirt to show it can be done. Of course, you know and I know it can be done, but a reminder is useful.  And likewise, this gorgeous pleated skirt from ISON was released with a coordinating top with gorgeous embroider on the shoulders. I love these knife pleats. Every time I see them, I am reminded of this amazing fabric store I went to in Algeciras. I have been to larger ones since, but this one had the feeling of centuries of tradition. The building was incredibly old and there were shelves that went up nearly to the ceiling which was at least twenty feet high and rolling ladders to climb to reach the fabrics. Even the cash register must have been from the 19th century, covered with ornate leaves and flowers.  … Read the restalthough the actual image is clear enough, the interpretation is infinitely blurred, a sort of enormous rainbow of every possible color you could imagine

Stories & Folklore

The theme for Collabor88 this month is StoryTime and the creations showcased are a rich display of folkloric traditions and influences. There is a lot of embroidery, a lot of beautiful colors and rich traditional fabrics. Sissy Pessoa ran with the idea into a more modern direction with this gown and capelet. It has all the traditional flower forms, but the dress itself is quite modern and made even more so in the sheer version.
But sheer or opaque, it’s bold and beautiful. Both the dress and capelet come with the sheer or opaque options. With the sheer option, I can show off these gorgeous pumps from Ingenue that are also for Collabor88’s Storytime inspiration. Designer Betty Doyle’s display ad features the red pair because her inspiration was the somewhat grim Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, The Red Shoes. Also at Collabor88, Phoenix released this Tiana hair, long and lush. The earrings are from Kungler’s, part of the January Cosmopolitan showcase.… Read the restWith freedom, books, flowers, and the moon, who could not be happy?

Resistance Is Fertile

This sign, a riff on the Borg’s mantra, made me laugh. I always just point out the Borg dies in the end. But I laugh because where I grew up, we competed against Fertile in sports and other competitions. More amusingly, Fertile happens to be just about 25 miles from Climax, another town we competed against. When you’re in high school, such things are hilarious and even to this day, pranksters add distance to Fertile signs to the “You are Entering Climax” sign and vice versa. By the way, whoever ordered “You are entering Climax” is my hero. That sign is gone now, replaced by the much less amusing “Climax Pop. 300” sign. Not that we weren’t without our own embarrassing names. A few miles out of town, there used to be a glorious road sign, “Bullshit Valley, Next Left” That was the name of the valley. That was the sign. When I was home this summer, I saw it has been “cleaned up” and now reads, BS Valley.… Read the restThe history of liberty is a history of resistance.

It’s Only Fashion Is Back

Our web site was down. Somehow there was a virus in the database. Is that not the strangest thing? I don’t know if that would affect readers or not, but thankfully it’s been fixed. I shot these pictures last week. I was still shocked by the Orwellian phrase “alternate facts” that in a healthy society would completely discredit the people who promote them. But, since people no longer distinguish between fact and opinion, alternate facts seem to be growing. Aldous Huxley, though, had the right idea. “Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.” I fell in love with this lovely sweater from NYU for FaMESHed. It came with a gorgeous asymmetric skirt, too, but I wanted to show off the gorgeous ribbed waist line of the sweater and it tucked into the skirt. You can see the top and skirt together here. But look at that beautiful ribbing at the bottom…I had to find something to wear that showed it off. The Lesha trousers from Baiastice were perfect.… Read the restFacts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.

The Borg Loses in the End

Yesterday, three million women and men marched in every state and on every continent in the world. Every continent, even Antarctica. In 51° below Kotzebue, Alaska, people marched. In sunshine and rain storms, desert heat and arctic cold, people gathered to resist. Of course, the naysayers mocked and dismissed. “Resistance is futile,” they quote The Borg, an implicit confession of corruption. They forget, the Borg is destroyed in the end.
I adore this leggings from Vinyl. They are just perfection. The tank is from Zaara. Both are at Collabor88 this month. The shoes are from Ingenue. Of course, resistance is more than one march on one day. We know that. We don’t need to be mocked or disparaged for our success and our enthusiasm. We are not naive. We know that we must organize now, not just march. We must speak to our neighbors, our friends, and our family. We do not need to argue with the opposition. They are not ready to listen and may never be, but we outnumber them if we only act and if we vote.… Read the restThis, to me, is the ultimately heroic trait of ordinary people; they say no to the tyrant and they calmly take the consequences of this resistance. Building dikes to hold back the tides of fear

Resistance requires strength. Sari-Sari released a set of ballet poses with their exercise equipment for Collabor88
Building up my pixel power, I am wearing some great exercise clothes from this round of Collabor88. The pants are from Decoy and the sports bra and top are from Zaara. My sporty hair cut is from Mithral Lovely skin and makeup options in Glam Affair’s Ravenna are perfectly subtle. The earrings are a bit fancy, but who remembers to change their earrings at the gym? ****SHOPPING LIST******

Free, unrestrained and unhindered.

Epictetus wrote in the Enchiridion, “The things in our control are by nature free, unrestrained, unhindered.” We control our own actions, words, opinions, what we like, what we don’t like, and what we want. If we stick to what we control, he suggests, we are free of restraint. It is when we try to influence the things outside our control that we are trapped. It’s good advice. The difficulty is figuring out what we can control. That’s been on my mind a lot. There’s a lot I don’t like happening, but what can I control? I can choose despair or resistance, that’s up to me. I need to focus on what I can do, not what I wish would happen. So even though I feel like kicking more than an exercise bag, I will instead focus my mind and my heart on resisting despair.
This month’s Collabor88 theme is Chic Gym and Purple Poses sure delivered a one-two-kick-punch salvo with their SportTime pose props. I am using the single poses.… Read the rest“the things in our control are by nature free, unhindered, and unobstructed"

The choices that are my own…

My computer has been on sabbatical since December 18th. It took a trip to Cupertino to soak in the warmer weather and pick up a new logic board. Luckily, it returned last night just in time for me to show off this gorgeous dress from ISON before Collabor88 shimmies itself into a new monthly showcase on the 8th. Is this not lovely and it comes in five colors and I posed on that pose stand clicking the HUD through those colors over and over and over and over again trying to decide. It was impossible, they are all wonderful. So, I eenie-meenied my way to this lovely rose shade. I am decisive like that sometimes.

Speaking of choices, I am not one for resolutions or for self-help books. I laugh in their general direction! However, I have decided that there is a self-help book that appeals to me, The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday. I am going to try to read it one-day-at-a-time, as intended, though the temptation to read it all at once is strong. It has already made me roll by eyes a couple times, but I have read and appreciated Marcus Aurelius and Epictetus in the past.… Read the restWhere then do I look for good and evil? And now we welcome the new year, full of things that have never been.

Rilke was right to note that the new year would be full of things that have never been. Every new year brings us innovation, discovery and change. In that, every new year brings us something to hope for despite looming dangers. Despite the many losses that have made 2016 a bitter and sorrowful year, I fear we may look back on it with longing as the Grand Panjandrum takes the oath he will break that very day and every day that follows. Tomorrow will follow tomorrow and time goes forward inexorably. All we can do, then, as we teeter on the edge of the abyss, is resist despair, resist defeat and find sanctuary in community, in beauty, and in certain knowledge that the arc of the moral universe may have gotten a kink in it, but it still bends toward justice.

It may be that Second Life® becomes a refuge, a haven of sanity and compassion in a world that has turned vicious and violent. There is a culture of tolerance, open-hearted decency, and cross-cultural respect in Second Life that may be a safe haven for people who find the open embrace of bigotry by our political leaders offensive and intolerable.… Read the restAnd now we welcome the new year. Arcade Angels

There’s all sorts of angelic options at The Arcade, but I did not take the usual route. I did add wings from The Secret Garden (tsg) but instead of rest of their angelic creation, I went the naughty angel route with this deliciously sexy Show Time dress from Blueberry. This dress is much too short and bootylicious to be standard issue angelwear, but I don’t believe in standard issue clothing.
There is something heavenly, though, about the gold spun Nei boots that come with Blueberry’s dress in the gacha at The Arcade. Tableau Vivant’s Evening updo works well with the crown from Balderdash and its matching necklace. Fabulous nail appliers from AlaskaMetro, earrings from Paper Couture and a coordinating Show Time mask from Blueberry complete the look. I tinted the mask with a hint of grey so it was not such a white-white in contrast to the rest of the jewelry. My skin is a new release from Glam Affair for Lelutka Mesh heads – and now that mesh heads can be fitted and individualized, I checked out this newest shape from Juicy, an old business made new again.… Read the restMay You Find Some Comfort There
