Like many other fashionistas who have long enjoyed and appreciated Gala Phoenix’s skins, I was thrilled to read that a settlement had been reached and Curio’s doors are open once again. To celebrate, Gala released an entire pack of her skins, with all the makeups and all the tones, to her in-world group. What a generous gift, especially in celebration of what must have been a very frustrating process. I think many people are feeling frustrated. I know I have mixed emotions. My celebration that Curio has returned to the grid is tempered by the very real disappointment that the settlement precludes the storybook verdict and vindication that all the courtroom dramas promise us.

Reality is so damned complicated. When you watch a courtroom drama, you don’t see the hundreds of dollars spent on photocopies, the thousands spent on research, travel, recordings, and document filings and the tens of thousands spent on stenographers, lawyers and time off from working. There always seems to be enough money or the lawyers are working pro bono and their firms always forget to set them a budget. That’s not the real world experience where most cases end in settlement when one party or the other just runs out of money. Kauna has Christmas Sweaters for men and women in all the holiday shades and patterns at faMESHed. Everyone needs a Christmas Sweater for holiday pictures, parties and holiday cheer.

Until glaucoma took away her ability to see the details, my mother knit a sweater for my every Christmas. I can remember most of them. My least favorite was a traditional Scandinavian pullover in red, white and blue she made for me when I was in 3rd grade, even then my color palette was subtler than that. My favorite was a longer tunic sweater she knit in a dark sienna with a Scandinavian knit border print from hip to mid thigh with sienna, pumpkin, cream and dark forest green. One of the most stunning was one she knit of variegated yarn that through serendipity happened to have the exact number of stitches so the yarn formed a gorgeous argyle plaid pattern on the front panel. She knit a gorgeous lacy shell one year that was so soft and made with such fine yarn I could squeeze it into a ball in one hand. The last one she made before her vision dimmed permanently was a soft dove gray, seashell pink and white Scandinavian cardigan with silver buttons. I loved my sweaters and their loss is one of the harder losses from our house fire.

That’s why I dislike the “Ugly Christmas Sweater” trope. How can a sweater made with love ever be ugly?

I always get a kick out of Adore & Abhor’s store name. It’s a clever euphonious riff on Love & Hate using assonance to make our ears smile. I am excited to see that Adore & Abhor are moving into mesh creation with this dress named Svelte, their first mesh dress that they developed for Cinema! the extravagant fashion showcase. The deep red with the contrasting darts is graphically bold and the cutaway bodice is sexy while holding everything in place.

In this composite you can see the dress from different angles and see the lovely, but subtle shading that gives it life. You can also get several good looks at the hotteriffic new shoes from Cherry. I love the buckles that give the shoes an edge. There’s just enough to punctuate the shoes without turning them into fetish wear.

I added bold earrings from Glow Studio. This red and black version was on sale at The Dressing Room in September. The fun hair style is a men’s cut from Dura paired with a MADesigns hairbase in red. Dura does not make a red, so I tinted their sienna and then dug around in my bases to find a good match.

I could not resist the wonderful SLink mesh hands that turn a pose with hands into something to show instead of hide. The skin is a current VIP Gift from PXL Creations. The rings are from Paper Couture and bracelets are from Kunglers and Leverocci.

E! That’s what I am wearing. My sweater and skirt are from E! Well, not really, but every time I wear clothing from Eclectic Apparel, I have to double check the name because I forget the real name and think of it as E! I mention this because I bet I am not the only one, so dear readers, please remember that E! stands for Eclectic Apparel so you can remind me next time. The funny think is I always remember Eclectic as the E! is there to remind me, but then I am stuck for Eclectic What. It’s a short list of options, but I always run through them. I won’t list them since that only will reinforce my mixed up memory.

There’s nothing mixed up, though, about the Eclectic Apparel sweater and skirt that were recently released for the October FaMESHed showcase. Just in time for the nippy weather, here’s a gorgeous heavy knit sweater with a high neck and long sleeves and an adorable wool pleated skirt. Both are elevated beyond the usual with unique details such as the buttons on the long, exaggerated rollback sleeves and collar and the lace-up, self-belting waistband on the skirt. Eclectic Wingtips, the designer, also graced us with 20 color options for the sweater and 8 colors for the skirt. Everyone will be able to find their ideal colors with that variety.

I decided to add the new ankle boots from Cherry – their rich autumnal red echoing the sweater and the many buckles making a connection to the skirt.

I love the idea behind the Raid My Closet Challenge. With an inventory overflowing with far more clothes than I can keep track of and more shoes than a Jimmy Choo store, it makes sense to dig around in the inventory rather than buy something new. We all know that there have been great advances in the technology of clothing design and that there’s a reason some of the clothing moldering in our folders are not seeing the light of day anymore, but among those older clothes and shoes are gems that are just as good as ever.

My dress/jacket/scarf combo is not that old, barely scraping by the qualification of having been purchased before September 30th, but it’s so cozy looking. It’s from Celoe and comes all of a piece. I love its look, but wish that they were separates so I could mix and match the way I used to. With its layered look, it gives the impression of individual styling, but that impression is lost when many people have the same styling. My individuality has to be express otherwise and that’s where the older stuff comes to the fore. The tights are from nova and just one of the 20 or so color sets of panties, camis and tights available. I don’t remember which color I bought first, but I have been back over and over and over adding more colors. These cocoa colored tights are from September 2009, three years ago. The boots are from April of this year and are from G.Field. They come with a HUD for changing the laces and the tops of the shoes.

Actually, I am not at the New York sim and I know that’s a terrible pun, but I could not resist. I have a weakness for bad puns.

What is true, though, is I am wearing Nyu’s fabulous trench coat and set for the winter rains. You can find it at the FaMESHed October showcase. The coat comes in leather and wool and in just about every color you could want. I chose pink because I was thinking it’s been a while since I wore something pink. Besides, it looks so good with the hotness that is…

the new Equestrienne boots from GOS. Are they not the hottest thing since sliced bread? They are highly polished leather boots in a classic style that is oh-so flattering. They come in a pack of neutral and autumnal colors and make a great investment addition to your wardrobe as there will be so many things you can wear them with.

I added a cute, short cut from Dura and some old, old earrings from DeLa. My skin is PXL Creations FAITH – with some lip and eye shadow tattoos.

When I unpacked the glorious “My Feathered Waspie” from La Penderie de Nicole, I realized it was one of those pieces that could be mixed and matched with bits and pieces of other outfits to make fun, new things, giving me a chance to “design my own.”

I added the skirt from an gorgeous old ball gown from Styles of Edo and the feathered shoulder epaulettes from a new release from VoguE. With the waspie, they make an exciting fashion-forward gown.

And it’s gorgeous from the front or back.

If you’re concerned about exposing too much, you can add a layer of discretion from the gown.

Or you can flash your flashables. To match the modern edge, I added Lelutka’s Hera updo. The skin if PXL Creations Kasumi and the earrings are from Mandala.

When I saw this fabulous off-the-shoulder sweater from erratic for FaMESHed this month, I immediately thought of these gorgeous pants from Cashmere that I found at Vintage Fair. Sure enough, they are a great match and perfect for a no muss, no fuss Saturday.

I added the Western Ankle Boots from HANDverk that is also featured at FaMESHed, choosing the pink ones to bring out some of the pink in the pants.

Tossing on the fabulous coral necklace, also by HANDverk highlighted the orange in the sweater and pants. The casual hairstyle from Exile is perfect for the relaxed outfit and this relaxed Saturday. I am wearing on of his new fade tones – Ember – and loving the new shade.

My makeup is from PXL Creations and developed for the gorgeous Kate skin line from PXL. So there you have it, an easy, casual, but very colorful outfit for my lazy day.

I don’t know which opening move Aikea Rieko is commemorating with her Gambit dress, but it must be a colorful one.
I love the many iterations of this Gambit dress from The Plastik for FaMESHed and there is one in the tradition black and white colors of chess, so the name makes perfect sense. But for me, I am drawn to the wild, hallucinogenic prints like this one and the one that Acha wore the other day. But then, I have never had the patience for chess.

Of course, magpie that I am, I could not resist pairing this dress with the glorious new booties from Kunglers with their wild colors.

I topped off the look with a wonderful new long style from Truth called Swift. The jewelry is some of my oldest, purchased back in 2007 when I first joined, but I still love it. There’s no reason to get rid of things we love, just because they’re old. I feel the same with great skins. Sure, there are newer skins from PXL that are fabulous, but I also love this older Gaia from last year.

I wonder if Diane von Fursternberg knew, back in 1972 when she introduced her wrap dress, that it would completely conquer the world. This Kennedy dress from Rebel Hope shows us why. It’s a model of simplicity, free of embellishments. Its lines are clean and spare with no added darts and pleats for structure, its shape formed by its easy embrace of the body. Its color gives it a dash of the casual while its fluidity and side wrapped bodice add a touch of cleavage and sex appeal. It may have come into being in 1972, but its organic shape made it an instant classic. It’s one of the fabulous mesh pieces you can find at this month’s FaMESHed showcase.

HANDverk gives us adorable mesh cowboy-shaped booties for FaMESHed. These ankle boots were an exciting find for me – reminding me of a pair of cowboy styled ankle boots I used to have that I loved. They were so comfortable I could have worn them all the time. These come in several colors and add a cheeky contrast to the dress.

I am wearing the fun and fabulous Valencia jewelry from Maxi Gossamer again. A few clicks of the texture menu and it’s a completely new look. My hair is another boy’s style from Dura. Seriously, it’s far too beautiful for the boys.

I dug out an older skin from my inventory – IFE from Lelutka. I love her eye makeups so much. This also gives you another look at that fabulous hair.

While sculpts have given way to mesh in Second Life®, in first life fashion, sculpting is all the rage. Structured dresses made with polished linen blends are sculpted with angled darts and pleats to give us classic shapes with dynamic and exciting details. This new dress from Molichino for the October FaMESHed showcase is a perfect example of the structured dresses that have been taking over the runways of the world.

Note the pleats at the collar, the strong darts that not only sculpt the bodice, but also the hips with the triangular insert. See how the dress skims the body without hugging it – its fabric resistant to all temptations to cling. There’s the tiniest flare at the bottom of the sleeve and the kick pleat at the back of the skirt is not a kick pleat at all, but a sort of reverse swallowtail. All of these subtle, but oh-so-distinctive details are the defining elements of structured gowns. This one is a testament to the art.

Such a bold statement dress deserved bold shoes with as strong a statement, so I chose the Zoe Monochrome shoes from Nardcotix. Like the dress, the shoes emphasize shape and structure over flash.

These classic pieces deserved strong jewelry, so I added a bracelet from Leverocci and these powerful earrings from Baiastice. The hair is a brand new Truth release called Mayim and it has that casual elegance that the dress demans. I dug about in my inventory for an old favorite skin from Lelutka.

This fun sundress from Ingenue for Vintage Fair had me reaching for some rockabilly and the incomparable Wanda Jackson. Some people say she is the female Elvis, but frankly, Elvis is the male Wanda Jackson.

This stunning gown from Loovus Dzevavor for Vintage Fair is another of those gowns that I can imagine being worn by one of the great singers, singing songs of passion and power. Perhaps even that old, old blues wonder, Don’t Mess with the Messer

I have not had space to rez my old house from Y’s House in ages, but I do now so I have pulled it out of my inventory and decided to snap some pictures before I furnished.

This gown has an amazing derriere – not just with the shape, but seriously, though circles make a little target to draw your eyes. It’s cheeky in more ways than one.

I added simple black pumps. I am really loving the new ones from MiaMai with the slender stiletto heel.

I love how Second Life Serendipity works. Take this outfit. I found this gorgeous Iris skirt at Leverocci and was looking for a good top to wear with it. I had tried on top in my White Tops folder and settled on a nice tank and a jacket which made a nice classic look, but was not what I had envisioned. Suddenly someone posts a vendor pic of Betty Doyle’s new top for Ingenue and had exactly the sort of modern lines I had been hoping for.

This fabulous jacket from Hucci has the classic, eternal chic of a Chanel jacket and the tank from MichaMi can dress up or dress down. I shot this at Digital Dragon – a great sim  with a predominantly black and white design.  This and the other Digital Dragon pics used Di’s Opera poses.

I love this silhouette of this top and skirt and the pristine white of the shirt is a good balance with the highly detailed floral kaleidoscope pattern of the skirt.

The Baiastice Lotus pumps are always a good choice for nearly any outfit.

A necklace from Uzuri and earrings from Maxi Gossamer kept the look modern. The earrings are texture change and come with many other op-art black and white options.

Giselle, from Glam Affair, has a great cat eye shadow that I love for this look. The hair is from Exile. I shot several more snaps, having fun with shadows and also pictures of the classic look with a sweater. You can check out the set on Flickr.

I swear there is a reason this blog title makes sense. You see, I am featuring a few items from faMESHed (pronounced fa-MESHED) which my mind always reads as Fame Shed. Personally, I think the organizers should just go with it and put a few hay bales out and maybe a cow. A nice chich cow, like a Guernsey or a Jersey. One of those cows with eyeliner and long lashes. Because one thing you will find at faMESHed is chic.

Still my mind hops from faMESHed to Fame Shed to Shed to Cold Comfort Farm and well, if you saw it, you know where my mind went next…

There’s some fun outfits at faMESHed, including an adorable top with shorts from coldLogic, but I like to mix things up just for fun, so I wore the top from coldLogic with these pants from BOOM. The top comes in four lovely sherbety colors. The BOOM Miami Linen pants come in twelve fabulous pastels that could be called sherbety since people make sherbet out of the darndest things nowadays.

Also from faMESHed, these gorgeous earrings and necklace from HANDVERK. There’s also a matching shorter and more petite pendant. These come in many color options too.

The hair is from Lelutka – an older men’s cut. The skin is from Glam Affair’s new Giselle line and is so gorgeous.  And now, to take you on that last step from faMESHed to the Starkadders:

Oscar and “his” computer

“frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr” is what my cat had to say this morning. He also said “ghew” and tried to order something on Itunes. Thankfully, when I came back to my chair, the message said they were unable to complete his request. I turned off one-click ordering at Amazon a few months ago after having to cancel The Barbados Travel Pack. Of course, when I try to blog, he’s all over the place. Butting his head against my forehead, climbing up on my shoulder and walking all over the place. If you knew how any times I deleted long interjections in my blog posts! But of course, I wouldn’t have him any other way. He’s a loving, curious and demanding cat who provides so much entertainment and affection. Don’t fret about his eye, he’s still a little OCD from spending 8 months in the animal shelter before I adopted him. It’s been a year and it’s so much better, but not completely gone. The black SoftPaws on his claws prevents him from scratching himself too much.

Even with all his help, I hope to introduce you to this lovely day dress from Bilo. It’s a rather conservative (for Second Life) dress, but RL or SL, this is the perfect dress to beat the heat – fabric that breathes and loosely fitted. These sunny shorts from ColdLogic will be bringing the sun to the fun this weekend. I love their crisp styling and ice cream colors and the beautiful narrow belt that comes attached to them. Whether you wear the pink, blue, melon or this sunshine fresh yellow, you will be looking sharp and ready for fun in the sun – even if you’re painting the garden shed.

ColdLogic also released a matching top and sweater combo that is gorgeous – so gorgeous I bet you see the outfit a dozen times this weekend so I decided to remind you that you can mix and match mesh, though sometimes it takes some work. In this case, though, it was easy as one, two, MiaMai to put on this new swimsuit top from MiaMai and toss on a fun, paint-splashed shirt from Kauna.

I decided to go barefoot – but with the Gaeline Bare foot rather than the default. A reminder for those wearing this mesh foot, you must click on the hide joint button or you will tear your hair out trying to make it align.

I put my hair up in a loose pony tail from Lelutka and only used a touch of lip gloss with my PXL Creations skin.

This new babydoll dress from NYU is perfect for dancing and will let the beat go on in baby blue or pink.

Lovely ombre pumps from Baistice complement the dress beautifully and this angle reveals that some (not all) of the inside of the dress is lined so you can shoot from many angles. By not lining all of it, she reduces the polygons but makes sure it looks good from all sides.

I signed up to DJ at SL9B and drew the 6 AM slot. My set was this morning and was a lot of fun. I featured music of community liberation and resistance from around the world, trying to craft a set to suit this years SL9B theme of community. Gogo gave me some smart advice, reminding me not to wear mesh in case there were folks attending without mesh viewers, so I dug out this gorgeous old dress from MichaMi and added hot pick shoes from Baiastice is spice it up with color.

The dress seems inspired by the famous bandage dress styling of my favorite designer, Hervé Léger who is now known as Hervé Leroux after he lost control of his company and the commercial use of his own name. Clothing produced under the Hervé Léger label today are not designed by Hervé Léger at all, but by Max Azria of BCBG. Leroux currently makes only couture dresses at his ateliar in Paris.

I added jewelry from Kunglers and hair by Dura. I love Dura’s short cuts, always fresh and sassy.

My skin is from Belleza’s brand new release of Lily v.1. I added one of the lip tattoos from Belleza to get that hot pink color.

John Donne wrote some of the most powerful words on community in the English language. He was recovering from a serious, near-fatal illness and wrote Devotions upon Emergent Occasions, Number XVII in his Book of Meditations. I have loved John Donne since I was a teenager and was introduced to his poetry, but his powerful prose trumps poetry in this essay. This is only a small portion of this wonderful essay, but most of you will recognize it.

Shinichi Mathy has released two new dresses for Shiki Designs this week.  I was drawn most to this beautiful, closely-fited sheath called Envy which comes in green, blue and yellow.  I can see Joan Holloway wearing this dress, can’t you?

I did not opt for a retro styling, instead choosing very modern pumps from Baiastice in acid yellow.

I chose the Masai necklace and earrings from Kunglers, though they made a special lemon yellow set of their Orquidea necklace and earrings that would have tied in perfectly with the hair from Exile. I chose the Masai, though, because it’s simple bold style worked better with the dress. The orchid in the hair has a color-touch script and can be changed.

Alexander McQueen transformed fashion with his iconoclastic designs that overthrew fashion convention. He altered the gestalt of the fashion world before his tragic surrender to despair and suicide. But his influence continues, not only in Sarah Burton’s designs for his design house, but in the more theatrical fashion shows, the extreme silhouettes with fantasy hair and makeup and more diverse and interesting models that continue to bring excitement and vision to the runways. The rebirth of tailoring and the renaissance of rich textured brocades, prints and other fabrics all are part of his influence continuing. And here in Second Life we can see his influence with some of the work of designer Rollyn of Vangaurd. Vanguard is new to me. I saw the store at The Ashraya Project and fell in love with the fabrics and silhouettes. It has certainly been around since last December, but I only came across it this month. This rich, detailed dress with the amazing epaulettes is one of my favorites from her collection.

This was the second dress that came without glitch pants. Some lingerie and careful prim-adjusting made this wearable and I even wore it to a club dancing without mishap – so yes, we can survive without glitch pants. I managed to cover my butt by raising the waist higher. I would like to see glitch wear or an alpha included, though, simply because while I am good at fitting prims and making the adjustments necessary and not everyone is. I was going to blog this lovely gown I picked up at Culture Shock, but I ran out of time. Culture Shock closed yesterday and I am eager to hear how much was raised in total. Anyway, although this was a donation gown at Culture Shock, it will be available after the event at Vanguard, a store that features wonderfully avant garde clothing.

So, I will confess that the gown is more avant garde than I am. I thought it was missing the glitch pants and contacted the designer who confirmed that it was intentional. Well, pixel prude that I am, I just put on something black and short from another outfit. We all have tons of plain black glitch pants so you can easily find one for yourself if you’re like me and prefer less skin on view.

The gown is made up of beautiful lace with lush, heavy folds in the skirt and along the top of the bodice.

I added the Ballroom shoes from Mea Culpa. I love their modern details such as the chain mesh on the vamp. I wish the chain were not full bright because that forced me to use two projectorss to keep from having shoes that glow in the dark. It’s a small problem and easily addressed but I do prefer items that are not full bright.

My jewelry is from Kunglers – and as original and modern as the dress. I love the electric intensity of its colors.

Today is the last day of Culture Shock. I popped by last night to do some last minute shopping and there were only about 6 to 10 other people, making it a delightfully lag-free shopping experience. If you have been deterred by lagophobia lo these many days, now is your chance to find delightful dresses like this one from Spright and fun fashions and shop until you drop knowing that your lindens are saving lives for people whose time literally is running out without the fabulous work of Médecins Sans Frontières MSF (Doctors Without Borders).

I love this dress from Spright. It’s called Inspire and has so many lovely details such as the gathering of the skirt, the well-made waistband and the modern femininity of the ruffle on the top. Sure, if I had my druthers it would be sold as separates to let me mix and match, but complete outfits is one of the ways designers are choosing to adapt their work to the limitations of mesh. Knowing that rigged clothing cannot be modified by us inworld to make little adjustments to the waistband, it’s just easier to make it all of a piece so the pieces won’t intersect if we move a mm off dead square. When you consider how much richer and more natural the textures look and how well the clothing moves with you, it’s an acceptable compromise.

Tomorrow is the last day of Culture Shock and time is running out for you to save lives by  spending your lindens on fabulous fashions. I know buying a dress at Culture Shock rather than somewhere else seems a pittance, but your lindens make a difference. Your purchase of this dress buys the antibiotics to treat 3 children with pneumonia. The skin or the jewelry will buy vaccination against meningitis for 10 years! You see, many of the things that can save lives are relatively inexpensive, but it’s getting them to where they are needed that makes all the difference. That is what makes Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders so very important. Unlike many other aid organizations, they have no affiliation with any government, ideology or religion and have no agenda beyond providing the health care that saves lives where it’s most needed. This means they are uniquely trusted and able to operate in places where others are not welcome.

With projects in over 60 countries, MSF is saving lives not only around the world but here at home, wherever home may be. We like to think we are secure and isolated from the ravages of famine, disease and hunger but illness is infectious. No man is an island, particularly when it comes to viruses. I suppose since Gidge and I both were at the Nzuri grand opening party, it makes sense that we both ended up blogging our lingerie today. Totally not a coordinated plan. It was a fun party and the lovely ladies who attended mostly wore lingerie since that is her store’s specialty niche. I DJ’ed for the party a fun set of burlesque and cocktail jazz music with some new remixes and modern electro-jazz. When Tracy Rubble, Nzuri’s owner/creator mentioned that Cell House Tango was one of her favorites, I had to add it to the set.

That was when we got raided.

Anyway, here’s the sexy and sassy lingerie I wore, named Sachi. I imagine in honor of Sachi Vixen of Adam n Eve. I like the wider straps on the bra. They really maintain their shape when I move. The garters so as well, for all but the most extreme poses. The shoes are some lovely orange mesh shoes from Celoe.

I am wearing the new Belleza skin named Lily which has a wonderful face. I have not had a chance to check out all the makeups it comes in yet, but trying it on for this post, I was very impressed. The jewelry is from Kunglers and the hair from Lelutka.

Nyu is a brand new store in Second Life featuring classic ready to wear separates from NyuNyu Kimono in beautifully textured mesh. I love the elegant minimalism of her clothing that focuses on quality and clean aesthetics. You can hide lots of mistakes with embellishments, but not with these simple classics. The Vintage Blouse is from her shop while the skirt is one you have seen a few times before – the Westbury mini from Mon Tissu. I fatpacked the Westbury mini because it’s one that will stand the test of time.

NyuNyu also made a stunning coat that I am in love with. It comes in 4 colors and it was so hard to choose just one, though I settled for this one because I loved how its color worked with the blouse and I thought they would work beautifully together – which comes to one of my quibbles, not with the store, but with the properties of mesh overall.

I love to layer and I want to layer and I will continue to layer. I understand some of the complexities of mesh and tried wearing the blouse in small with the jacket in large, but no joy. It’s so close to working, but not quite and I was so disappointed. The blouse does not come through the jacket because NyuNyu is a bad designer, but because that’s how mesh works, you can’t put a layer OVER another like you can put sweater over a top over an underwear layer. I love prints and colors. I am a veritable magpie in my love of bright colors and prints. So when the new release of fun little jumpsuits from Baiastice came out in five luscious wild and colorful prints, I was all over it.

For my fellow magpies, there’s also some great ankle booties from R2 at Collabor88 in 4 bright color combinations.

And every magpie will be excited by the new jewelry from Kunglers even if it features a different species of bird. These nightingale sets come in three color choices and each one full of the bright and shiny objects that make a magpies life complete.

And to launch the “Happy Happy Joy Joy” song, Exile has new hair with an accompany flower and lei. I left off the lei in order to wear the bright and shiny nightingale necklace, but you can imagine how great it is from the flower it goes with. Add to that all the fabulous tattoo makeups with the new Kate skin line from PXL Creations and I am a happy magpie.

No, I am not feeling blue, just wearing blue – and sitting on blue. The blue cardigan is from Leverocci. I picked it up when I was thinking my outfit from The Sea Hole looked a bit chilly for the weather we were having. The chair is from RnB and is a Wear Gray event item. It has 9 sit animations in it with a good mix of realistic male and female options. I love the retro styling. It reminds me of this fabulous couch I bought at a rummage sale that was that same electric blue and also a 60s vintage in pristine condition. I bet they kept it in plastic covers. It was 75 inches long and I loved it. Unfortunately, my dog would chew on the legs a bit, so I bought some bitter apple and sprayed the entire couch so she would leave it alone. Big mistake! I came home after work to a house with floors 6 inches deep in couch batting and fabric and the only fabric and stuffing still on the counch the little bits near the staples and upholstery nails that she could not chew off. It went from fully upholstered to wood and springs with one spray of bitter apple. When I saw this chair, I felt a pang of nostalgia for that magnificent couch and for that damned dog.

The Sea Hole has released this adorable casual top and skirt mesh outfit. I love the details like the little bow at the bottom of the top. This really shows how great mesh can look and the kind of detail it can provide. I love this mesh top from Elmont - with the subtle musical score printed on the fabric. It's available in three options at Wear Gray Market.

My childhood winters seem from another world now that I am grown and living in a city. We frequently were without power. There were just two families on our long, narrow and winding road through the woods, so when storms knocked out the electricity it might take 5 to 10 days for them to get around to repairing our lines. We had plenty of kerosene lamps and were always prepared, so it was not a hardship, though I thought I should get extra credit on my history papers for writing them by lamplight. One of the bonuses of those nights without power was that we pulled out the board games and played cards and games for hours.

Prelude is a new release from WTG and includes not only these highly detailed bangles and nail sets, but also earrings and a necklace.

My favorite game was Masterpiece, the art auction game. I think that is where I learned my love of art. In most games, I am a very good strategic player, but in Masterpiece, I was not. I bid on the art I wanted, not the art I thought had the highest hidden value. One that I was sure to outbid everyone on was Jackson Pollack’s Grayed Rainbow. Mom was always puzzled by my love for Grayed Rainbow while delighting in sticking me with its forgery.  I could not really explain why that painting had such a pull on me, but it did. Squinternet Larnia has released a new dress, the first since her long struggle with illness began in December. Her struggle is not over, but I find so much hope in her return to designing and in the forward-looking name of her new outfit. April is the month of new beginnings, of rejuvenation, when the flora and the fauna return with full life force after the long winter of retreat and hibernation. I hope that the name for her new dress is a harbinger of hope, just as April is the harbinger of renewed vigor and vitality in nature.

And Donna Flora is back with a bang! This is no simple little gown, but one with fabulous details of the sort that Squinternet has built her solid reputation on.

There’s the fabulous goldwork embroidery that bridges the silvery lilac to the rosy mauve bodice. There’s the garnet crystal beads that form a strap on the left shoulder and the fabulous cascade of roses on the right shoulder. These are the kinds of elements that are the hallmark of Donna Flora designs and they are back in full style and power.

If that were not enough, she made a headpiece to go with it and matching hair and hairbase to go with it. /me swoons. The colors reminded me of one of my favorite jewelry sets from Donna Flora so I dug it out to wear with it.

It’s been just over a year since the tremendous earthquake and tsunami devastated Japan and the work of recovery is still in progress. To that end, Mami Jewell has released this beautiful, ethereal gown called Esperance, or Hope. 100% of the proceeds will go to Japan’s Red Cross to support the continued recovery effort. It reminded me of one of my favorite songs – Mercy Now by Mary Gauthier. This is a powerful song that brought me to tears the first time I heart its opening lines, “My father could use a little mercy now” as it made me think of how hard my own father worked and the setbacks and disappointments in his life.

I DJ’ed last night at The Velvet and put together a fun set full of mambos, tangos and sambas with a bit of jive and other things to spice it up. I wanted to wear something samba-worthy and remembered this top I picked up at The Dressing Room Blue. It was from Mimikri, so I dived into my Mimikri folder to find a silver skirt to wear with it – and adapting this skirt from the Adele dress worked perfectly.

I love putting together different sets that explore a mood or a beat and have a lot of fun spinning my songs on Monday nights. My long-time friend and former partner is the manager at The Velvet and has really brought a new spirit to the place. If you have not been there in awhile, you might want to try it again. The old “We are cooler than you,” vibe is long gone and there’s a friendly spirit that focuses on the sheer pleasure of sharing music. There’s a blog that you should check out with posts from many of the DJ’s updating readers on upcoming sets.

I decided to wear these fun KIA wedge sandals from Lelutka. I thought about some court shoes for dancing, but since I don’t have to worry about tripping over the platforms in SL, I went for these instead. Today is the day many of the faithful of Minnesota celebrate by wearing purple in honor of St. Urho who famously saved the grape harvest of Finland by uttering the phrase “Heinäsirkka, heinäsirkka, mene täältä hiiteen” (roughly translated: “Grasshopper, grasshopper, go to Hell!”) My family has made the pilgrimage to Menagha to see the famous statue of Saint Urho.

It’s too far to travel this year, but in St. Urho’s honor I am wearing purple – the fabulous Miro-inspired purple and orange dress from Moonstruck. Embellished with circles that evoke the work of Miro and in colors suited for a blacklight runway – it’s an avant garde party in fabric. It is one of the wonderful finds at this year’s Fashion For Life.

Have you noticed all the lingerie lately? Well, it’s totally Gogo’s fault. I don’t know how many times I will trot out the tatas but, I thought the design and colors in this little number from Miao were too good to pass up. Besides, it’s in the Love Gacha which is sort of like playing slots, but with guaranteed prizes. It comes in five different colors. At 30L a try, you can’t go wrong gambling on this one. Besides, if you get duplicate colors, you just have some Valentine’s Gifts to give your friends. You don’t have to say you were trying to get the teal one and got 10 pinks first (not that this happened to me).

I picked up these gorgeous boots from Lassitude and Ennui from another event that is coming up on Feb 11th, the Back to Black event. What is so striking about this event is that items contain notecards with personal history and information about mental health concerns to promote awareness\. Mental illness can be even more devastating than more easily understood physical illnesses in large part because people don’t understand it. This is an event to increase awareness of mental health issues which can promote empathy and compassion. I think compassion is needed more than anything.

For the past four year my friend, Harper Ganesvoort, has put on a fun photo contest focused on the true highlight of the Academy Awards – the fashion. This is a very different contest from most in Second Life. It’s a contest sponsored by an individual out of enthusiasm for the art and fashion of Second Life, not by an event seeking to build interest or a store promoting its business. There’s nothing wrong with those contests, but there’s something tremendously right about a contest just for the pleasure of it. You can post entries on Flickr or KoinUp and the rules are very simple. Whether you enter or not, you should definitely take a look at the fabulous fashions.

I chose the fabulous Ingrid gown from Kunglers for a few reasons. Primarily, there’s too little rich color on the red carpet most years and even less print. This dress has a beautiful print underskirt and the colors are so rich and inviting. Besides, Ingrid Bergman was one of the greatest actresses ever – so the dress might be lucky.

My hair is a soft, loosely wrapped chignon from Lelutka. I added the fabulous floral necklace and earrings from WTG. This happens to be something you can gift in-world if you’re thinking about Valentine’s Day. I bought the other color set fro Gidge for Christmas and was so impressed with the gifting set-up. KymSara Rayna is our guest stylist today. I first met KymSara in-world at Ivalde where she works as a customer service representative and has for a very long time. I have come to appreciate her generosity with praise and comments on Flickr.  She dresses with a classic and simple elegance which is epitomized by the outfit she chose for this post.

She’s wearing a gorgeous dress with a pencil skirt of silk taffeta and with a soft, flowing jacket. The fabric is lush and has an easy, swinging movement.

She chose gorgeous jewelry from WTG which also made those stunning prim nails.

Her hair is from Boon and I definitely will be looking for that updo. Her make up is one of the fresh-faced pearlescent LAQ skins.

This is the fourth annual Peace on Earth hunt. Blogging about the Hunt makes me remember my first year in Second Life and the POE1 was the first gridwide hunt that I had participated in. I remember reading about it beforehand and wondering how they would do a gridwide hunt – did that mean I had to look everywhere? Yup, I was that doofus! It was fresh and exciting and so much fun to hunt with Gidge, running all over the place, cracking wise and having good times. I remember how we would go to lucky chairs to wait and actually talk in chat. We even had lucky chair parties! This made me remember Digit Darkes and how much Gidge and I looked for her every new release, racing to be there to see what was new! She’s left the grid and I have packed up almost everything, but not everything. For this post, I pulled out a couple favorites to mash up with a dress from 1 Hundred for the 4th Annual Peace on Earth Hunt. The dress is adorable, but it’s chilly and I have been battling a head cold and for some very bizarre reason, I want my avatar to be nice, warm and comfy, so I didn’t want to wear a sleeveless mini – no matter how adorable. I decided to take off the skirt and add some pants and a jacket.

Come back to 1969 tonight at The Velvet for this 10th in the 52 week Rock Per Annum weekly tour of rock music history. DJ Maht Wuyts will be spinning music from the year 1969 – the year that man walked on the moon and over 350,000 people gathered on a farm in Bethel, NY, for a seminal music event – Woodstock. This was a year of increasing protests against the Vietnam War as the first draft lottery since 1942 was held. It was the year of the Chicago 8 Trial and the Charles Manson murders. Richard Nixon became president and immediately threw away his pledge to end the Vietnam War. Operation Menu, the secret bombing of Cambodia was launched. Meanwhile, the Air Force declared there were no UFOs.

Fashion in 1969 was a little bit of everything. There were officially five skirt lengths that were all “in fashion” from the micro, the standard (formerly known as the mini), the kneesie (for dressing up), to the midi and the maxi. Jersey knits were popular and worning in clinging wrap dresses. Kilts were another fashion hit as were pattern mixing of plaids, stripes and dots. Ethnic bohemian fashion continued to be popular with gypsy tops and long print skirt and granny boots remaining a popular item. Another popular fashion trend that carried forward from 1968 was the Bonnie and Clyde look, thanks to the successful movie. This lead to a resurgence of interest in Art Deco – particularly in jewelry.

Monica Outlander of MiaMai has produced a gorgeous pantsuit with a gorgeous wool serge. I love its rich texture and jewel tone colors. But guess what, it’s cold outside, so…

I tossed on a snug warm sweater and scarf. The sweater is from Novocaine – a store that has sadly left the grid. The scarf, though, is a new release from Baiastice. It comes in several colors and also includes a additional piece that can cover up your lower face for those bitterly cold days.

Don’t you just love the sculpts on those pants? Both the pants and the top have layers of tulle that give it a lovely effect.

I added hair from Exile and the elegant, as always, Gaia from PXL Creations. The earrings are from Kunglers.

1967 was the prelude to the Summer of Love. Rolling Stone published its first issue. Ralph Nader came to the attention of the public with his book “Unsafe at any Speed” which launched consumer activism. Gas was 33 cents a gallon. Radio London started broadcasting. And Scott McKenzie sang “If you’re going to San Franciso,” the anthem calling youth to the Monterey Pop Festival. Resistance to the Vietnam War was growing and Muhammed Ali was stripped of his heavyweight boxing title for refusing induction into the army. The Beatles released Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart Clubs Band and the Magical Mystery Tour and Kurt Cobain was born. You can come to 1967 at The Velvet tonight from 7 to 9 SLT as Maht Wuyts continues his Rock per Annum tour of the last 52 years of music.

Inspired by the San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in your Hair) song, I decided to wear this Flower Children outfit from Gizza. You can find it at the Vintage Fair in two colors. This is the red one – as bright and vibrant as the music that played at the Monterey Pop Festival. The outfit includes the top, pants and the crocheted shrug and all have resize scripts to help you fit them.

These pants are wild! And so are the old Ethic Bijou sandals from Aoharu. Yes, they are from the era of invisiprims – but vintage shoes seem so appropriate when blogging vintage clothing, don’t they?
